Exposed The Igboid Mafia To Rule Rivers State For 56 Years by amabipi: 12:46pm On May 07, 2018
There is a political cabal ravaging Rivers State – the Igboid Mafia.

The Igboid Mafia of Rivers State is widely believed to have emanated from a political dynasty traceable to former Governor Peter Odili. The sole purpose of the Mafia is to ensure that only the Igbo-speaking ethnic groups in Rivers State control political and economic power. This should however exclude the bilingual (Ibo-speaking) Ijaw people of Bonny, Opobo and parts of Okrika.

Membership of the Igboid Mafia are mostly politicians from Ikwerre, Etche, Ndoni, Ogba and Ndoki areas of Rivers State with some Ijoid and Ogoni cronies. These politicians masquerade and camouflage as persons representing the interest of their respective ethnic groups whereas their pursuit is purely personal and selfish. They do not have the mandate of their people to act as they do.
The father figure of the Igboid Mafia is said to be former Governor Peter Odili, a medical doctor turned politician from Ndoni town whose election in 1999 sowed the seed that became the Igboid political Cabal. His election was innocently spearheaded by prominent Ijoid (Rivers Ijaw) leaders.

Many reasons have been proffered for the emergence of the Igboid Mafia. Some say that Odili created it to protect his government against attacks from the dominant Ijoid group at the time. Others say that it was a product of Odili’s sad experiences during the Nigerian Civil War. Whatever the reason was, the Igboid Mafia has come to stay as the dominant factor in Rivers politics.

To make room for the nascent Igboid Mafia, the hitherto dominant Ijoid political structure was forcefully dismantled. The political fortunes of prominent Rivers Ijaw leaders like Alabo T.O. Graham-Douglas and Dr. Ombo Isokrari suffered drastic reversal and Dr. Marshall Harry and Chief A.K. Dikibo were murdered in very mysterious circumstances.
The Igboid mafia is said to have eminent Ikwerre persons that include the incumbent Governor Nyesom Wike, former Governor Omehia, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Reps, Hon. Austin Okpara, O.C.J. Okocha SAN and a veteran politician, Chief Sergeant Awuse.

Prince Emma Anyanwu and Hon. Desmond Akawor are said to be converts from Etche and Ndoki respectively while Bro Felix Obuah and one Shederack Akalokwu are believed to be the arrowheads from Ogba/Egbema axis.

The Igboid Mafia is alleged to include some Rivers Ijaw opportunists like Dame Patience Jonathan (said to be Igbo by birth), Chief Feddy Alabraba, Prince Uche Secondus, Senator George Sekibo and Dr. Abiye Sekibo. There are also a handful of Ogoni cronies said to be led by the serving Secretary to the State Government, Kenneth Kobani.

Members of the cabal are driven by the sole desire to control the coffers of Rivers State and are united by the selfish aspiration to share political and economic power among themselves.

The Rivers Ijaw and Ogoni elements in the Mafia further conceal the real mission of the cabal, which is to enforce Igboid rule over Rivers State for 60 years in total exclusion of the Ijoid and the Ogoni nations.

Political Exploits of the Igboid Mafia

On inception in 1999, the budding Igboid Mafia confiscated the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and sidelined the founding members of the party in Rivers State, including BOT members.
Former Governor Rufus Ada-George was chased into exile, Alabo T.O. Graham-Douglas sacked as Federal Minister, Marshall Harry and A.K. Dikibo are killed. The Mafia rendered the Rivers State House of Assembly ineffective and manipulated the appointment of the Chief Judge of the State. The Swift Operations Squad (SOS) of the Nigerian Police was used to coordinate militants against perceived political opponents.

The act of unleashing violence on opponents was the trademark of the cabal which increased or reduced in intensity depending on the level of desperation of the leadership. The cabal appointed well-known cult leaders as members of the State Executive Council and made them leaders of the party in their respective local government areas. The leadership of the Mafia grabbed and manipulated local government administration and nominated stooges into the state electoral body and into INEC as Resident Electoral Commissioners.

The dislodging of the political order that existed before 1999, required that the new power bloc was installed by force of violence and Rivers State has known no peace thence. Cultists and cult leaders emerged as candidates to local government councils and to State and National Assemblies.
Since 2003, the Igboid Mafia has never depended on actual votes to win elections; they seize the electoral process by force. However, in order to psychologically intimidate the Ijoid and the Ogoni groups, the Igboid Mafia has ensured massive falsification of population and voters registration figures in their domains – figures that can’t stand the test of one-man-one-vote.

The Igboid Mafia and its allies have emasculated Rivers people who watched helplessly as the cabal handpicked and installed their cronies into elective offices. This act of impunity was always backed by the presidency and enforced by state security agencies, cultists and militants.

In the midst of these devious political exploits by the Igboid Mafia, many Rivers people suffer impoverishment and dehumanization. Many people are killed and several communities are destroyed in orchestrated communal crises. The sanctity of the traditional institution is desecrated and societal values are upturned as the cabal ensures that the political and economic fortunes of genuine leaders are reversed by force. The Igboid Mafia of Rivers State has come to stay and it reigns supreme.
Nyesom Wike outsmarts the Mafia
The Igboid Mafia was originally designed to monopolize political power in trust for the Igbo-speaking areas of Ndoni, Ikwerre, Ndoki, Etche, Omuma, Ogba, Egbema and Ekpeye. Accordingly, Odili was said to have insisted on Ikwerre candidates to succeed him in 2007 against stiff opposition from the Rivers Ijaw leadership. The hidden plan of the Mafia was that after Ikwerre, the governorship would move to Ndoki with Desmond Akawor waiting in the wings. But amidst the confusion that attended the Rotimi Amaechi’s internal revolt against the Mafia, Nyesom Wike outsmarted the rest of the cabal.

Leading the Ikwerre wing of the Mafia, Nyesom Wike formulated the doctrine of Ikwerre North, Ikwerre South, Ikwerre West and Ikwerre East. His group insisted that Ikwerre alone has 1.1 million of the 2.5 million Rivers votes and can retain the governorship in perpetuity if they chose.

Many had thought that Wike was merely joking at the time, but the events of 2015 elections have further enshrined this perception. Currently, there are rumours that Hon. Austin Okpara or Emeka Woke has been earmarked to succeed Nyesom Wike in 2023.
The Ikwerre scheme to rule Rivers State for 24 years include:
· The re-drawing of the demography/political map.
· Domination by the Igboid group over the Ijoid and Ogoni.
· The economic empowerment of Ikwerre.
· Spending the entire state budget on Ikwerre land (PH & Obio/Akpor).
· Using renegade Ijaws, especially discredited politicians and militants from Kalabari and Okrika to execute Ikwerre agenda.
Non-Ikwerre members of the Mafia have maintained that it is sheer travesty for Ikwerre members of the cabal to change the rule and sit tight. They are reminding their Ikwerre colleagues to look back and remember the sorry state of Ikwerre before Odili rescued them in 2007. Until then, no Ikwerre man smelt the Government house; not because Ikwerre had no qualified candidates but because of the type of hegemonic politics now being emulated and adopted by the Ikwerre faction in the Mafia.
Other members of cabal are grumbling that Ikwerre that was pulled out overnight from the ashes of nothingness and made the lords of the Rivers State Government House are forgetting that Ikwerre governors did not emerge through a free-for-all contest. They argue that Wike must not seek a second term in office as his was a child of circumstance that has since lapsed.
Rotimi Amaechi: the righteous rebel
One ex-beneficiary of the activities of the Igboid Mafia was former Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi who was singlehandedly anointed governor by Odili in 2007 but who had since parted ways with the cabal.

Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi had disagreed with the fundamental objectives of the cabal and declared that for equity and fairness to reign, power must rotate among the ethnic groups in Rivers State – a position that negates the goals of the Mafia.

During the 2015 governorship campaigns, Amaechi argued that the contest should be open to every ethnic group in the state other than Ikwerre. He cautioned that if an Ikwerre man is allowed to succeeds him in office after he (Amaechi) had served for eight years, then other ethnic groups will never again get a chance to be governor.
Amaechi warned that if Wike was allowed to be governor in 2015, it will encourage other selfish Ikwerre politicians to think that “only Ikwerre people can come together and elect themselves as governors” He called on all Ikwerre patriots to rise against Wike and vote for a candidate from another ethnic group.
To the rest of Rivers people, Amaechi said “If you people allow him (Wike) to succeed, then forget your children, they will never be governors again because all it will take is when he finishes, another Ikwerre man will tell Ikwerre people: ‘I’m your son’ and Ikwerre will support him”.
“We must show justice and ensure that political power is equitably distributed. Even if you are an ethnic group of 20,000 persons, you have a right to the governorship of the state” Amaechi said.

Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe is a Niger Delta activist, an Ijaw leader and former special adviser to Governor Peter Odili on security matters. He was the spokesman of the Rivers Democratic Movement (RDM) and a successful businessman.

Shedding light on the raging debate on zoning of the governorship seat among the ethnic groups in Rivers State, Sara-Igbe said there was an arrangement that culminated in Ikwerre producing the governor of Rivers State in 2007. Recounting that prior to 2007, Ikwerre people had fought relentlessly for the governorship of Rivers State for so many years and failed.
“Since the creation of the old Rivers State, Ikwerre people contested every governorship election but they never had a governor of Ikwerre extraction.
“However in the year 2001 or 2002, elders of Rivers State who had become tired of the maladministration of then Governor Peter Odili came together under the platform of the Rivers Democratic Movement (RDM) and decided to proffer solutions to the numerous political problems of Rivers State.
“The Rivers Democratic Movement (RDM) had many prominent Rivers people from Kalabari, Ikwerre, Ogoni, Okrika, Ogba, Engenni, Abua, Odual and other parts of Rivers State like Alabo T.O. Graham-Douglas, Chief Rufus Ada-George, Late Chief Marshall Harry, HRM Eze Akaninwa, Chief Badom, Bishop Elkanah Hanson, Chief Bekinbo Soberekon, Engr. Samson Ngeregbara, Mr. Pedro Egbe, Mr. Harvey Warmer and many more”.
Chief Sara-Igbe said that one of the key issues discussed by the RDM was the rotation of governorship among the ethnic nationalities in Rivers State in a manner that would engender the amicable coexistence of Rivers people. He said that the leaders of the RDM were of the opinion that for Rivers State to develop proportionately, governorship must rotate among different geo-political zones.
“During the discussions, Ikwerre people were apprehensive about getting the Kalabari support on the issue of rotational governorship. The Ikwerres accused Kalabaris of being their problem citing the 1999 governorship election when Kalabari leaders in PDP supported Dr. Peter Odili against a more popular Chief Sergeant Awuse.
“However, at the end of deliberations on the rotation of the governorship, it was agreed that Ikwerre should take the first shot. This was despite the fact that most of the leaders of RDM were Kalabari people.
“To achieve effective rotation of the governorship position, Rivers state was divided into 9 (nine) zones as follows: (1) Orashi (2) Ikwerre (3) Kalabari (4) Ogoni (5) Ibani (7) Etche/Omuma (cool Obolo and (9) Okrika.
“Orashi zone already had the governorship in the then incumbent Governor Peter Odili and the Ikwerre zone insisted to be the next and the Kalabari and Ogoni supported Ikwerre to succeed the Orashi zone.
“The Ogonis initially expected the Kalabaris to insist on succeeding Peter Odili and supported Kalabari but Kalabari leaders conceded to Ikwerre for the sake of the unity of the state. It was therein agreed that after Ikwerre zone, then Kalabari zone would follow then Ogoni zone, Ibani zone, Etche/Omuma zone, then Obolo zone followed by the Oyigbo/Ndoki/Asa zone and then Okrika zone before the governorship will get back to Orashi zone again”.
Sara-Igbe said that this was the order of zoning agreed upon by the leaders of RDM for the governorship of Rivers State because they were not looking at the physical sizes of the zones but based their decisions purely on the geo-political blocs in the state.
“The opportunity to make the zoning official came in 2002 when the then President Olusegun Obasanjo made several moves to reconcile feuding members of PDP in Rivers State. The disputing camps were the PDP members of RDM and PDP members in governor Odili’s government.
“The RDM insisted that Governor Peter Odili must apologize to Alabo T.O. Graham-Douglas as a condition for peace and when finally, Odili decided to apologize to Alabo meetings for reconciliations were held.
“In the meetings for reconciliation with Odili, the PDP members in RDM presented the following issues: 1. Rotation of the governorship 2. The construction of road across Kalabari. 3. The construction of road to Andoni 4. The problems in the State Judiciary as it then was and 5. The south-south presidency.
“Dr. Peter Odili accepted all these conditions and that was why the governorship was zoned to Ikwerre in 2007. It was the reason why Amaechi became the candidate of the PDP and when he was substituted another Ikwerre man Celestine Omehia became the candidate.
“I want to put it on record that Rotimi Amaechi accepted that Celestine Omehia should be used as PDP governorship candidate. I stand to be corrected by Amaechi because the decision to put forward Omehia was not the making of Omehia. It was the decision of Odili, Amaechi and myself that brought Omehia and as God would have it, the Supreme Court decided that Amaechi should become governor”.
Chief Sara-Igbe said that it was clearly stated in those meetings that after Ikwerre the governorship will go to Kalabari and then Ogoni until it goes through the entire nine geo-political zones.
Saying “the existing senatorial zones were not used as criteria for rotating the governorship because if we did, it would have been difficult for Ikwerre to have the first slot because Ada-George from the Rivers East Senatorial Zone had been governor. We rather agreed on geo-political groupings of ethnic nationalities”.

He stated that the agitation for Ikwerre governorship was started by an organization called Ekere Ikwerre led by its President General Late Eze S.O. Akaninwa who in the BeaconNewspaper of Friday August 30, 2002, page 8 advocated the following issues:
(1) The Establishment of a common platform for Rivers Ethnic Nationalities. (2) The formation of an acceptable power sharing formula in Rivers State (alias zoning). (3) The enthronement of a government of Rivers State by Rivers people and for Rivers people.
Later the agitation was taken over by Ogbakor Ikwerre which appointed Chief Lasbry Amadi as their contact chairman who related with the various ethnic groups to see that this agreement was implemented.
“At the level of the PDP, Governor Peter Odili called a meeting of Chief G.U. Ake, Prince Uche Secondus, Rotimi Amaechi to sit with Alabo T.O. Graham-Douglas, Sotonye Ijuye-Dagogo, Theodore Georgewill, Late Maulo Oruene-Heart and myself to discuss the issue during the reconciliation meetings.

“Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi on his own also met with the Kalabari Elders Council and agreed to the Kalabari Elders Council that he will hand over to a Kalabari person after his tenure.
“These agreements were not made today but if Amaechi now feels that he will dishonour this agreement then it is unfortunate but there is nemesis. Even if all the people who were part of this agreement now feel that they cannot implement it, God is not sleeping.
“The agreement on how to rotate the Governorship in Rivers state was a spoken word that has been registered in heaven and anybody who wants to truncate it would face the cosmic law of repercussion.
“It is proper and wise that Rivers people should follow the order of rotation as agreed. That is Orashi zone to Ikwerre zone, then to Kalabari zone, and to Ogoni zone, then Ibani zone and to Etche/Omuma zone, to Obolo zone and to Obigbo zone, then to Okrika zone then back to Orashi zone.
“If we follow this sequence, I believe that Rivers State will be developed and if there is need to readjust the zoning then a broad meeting of the authentic representatives of the various ethnic groups must be convened to discuss the issues.
“Most of the people who attended the various meetings that reached the agreements are still alive and they cannot deny that these meetings held because decisions that were agreed upon were widely published.

“Mr. Pedro Egbe was the Chairman of the committee that did the rotation of governorship and he is alive. It was not done in the secret by one or two persons. It was done in the interest of Rivers state.
“The Orashi and Ikwerre zones have benefited from the agreement and it is time for the Kalabaris to take their turn. There is nothing wrong for Kalabari that has made so much sacrifice to produce the next governor.
“However, Kalabari people need to work hard because the Ogonis had always supported the Kalabaris but the Kalabaris had always disappointed the Ogonis. The Ogbas, Etches and the Ikwerres had always supported the Kalabaris. It is now left for the Kalabari people to put their house in order and present a good candidate that Rivers people will vote as governor”.

Ijaw people are very confused because of Governor seat they are calling ikwerre and Igoid speaking people in Rivers state Igbo people. Is't not their leader Edwin Clarke that said last year that Igbos are only in South East how come they are accusing the same igbo to be ruling in river state. Ijaw should go and contest Governorship election in Bayelsa that is the state created for the Ijaws.

amabipi:

What do Nigerians call an Igbo man from south south that commits a crime? IGBO

What do Nigerians call an Igbo man from south south that led the coup? IGBO

What do Nigerians call an Igbo man from south south that has political power? IGBO, IGBOID, SS, this one throws them off with their denial.

What do IJAWS that like to claim there are no igbos in South south when it benefited them call an Igbo man from south south with political power? IGBO or IGBOID ( e.g. Peter odili Vice Presidency rejection)

Finally What do Nigerians call Igbo people from south south that has oil? SOUTH SOUTH or Niger delta People.

This is the legacy of the civil war and most importantly OIL based politics.

It will be difficult for minority tribes to rule Rivers State because they are outnumbered by Igbos in a very wide proportion, It is unlike Delta State where all the Ethnic groups like Urobo, Itshekiri, Igbo, Ijaw have nearly equal stake, although Igbos are the majority in Delta State.

Ikwerre are not iboes. They have continued to affirm this fact over and over. Stop lumping them together with the jews. An ikwerre will endure if he is called a drunkard, a womaniser or a tout but they will not hesistate to cut off any iboe head that calls them iboe. Op you are just a trouble maker.

Why is amaechi governor of Rivers state for two solid tenure went to. Did the writer intentionally removed him from the picture he is trying to paint or he forgot.

Anyways. My thought though. BC last I checked amaechi is igboid and I believe he has a hand and profit to gain from this smear campaign.
