Biu-geography.

.
.
Brief Details:
.
Country: Nigeria
State: Borno State
Population as of 2006: 176,072
Time zone: CET( UTC+1)
.
Ten things you must know while in Biu.
.
1. The people of the region are mostly the Babur, Bura, Fulani, Tera, Marghi, Mina people. To surprise you, they are Christians too in Biu.
.
.
2. There are two schools there of recognition, NAITES (prospective Nigerian Army University) and the College of Education, WAKA. Naites, is even well respected than the latter.
.
3. So far, there are four banks in Biu; one branch of SkyeBank, a branch of Access Bank, a branch of UBA, and a branch of Keystone Bank. The worst of all is, month end(when salary is paid), there id always a long never-ending queue in these banks. The worst of all is the branch of SkyeBank, people even don't regard it useful because its ATM usually is out of service. While other banks, the people will withdraw to the extent that the money finishes. Secondly, these banks close at 2pm.
.
4. English speakers are rare. Mostly and widely spoken language is Bura.
.
5. Food sorts you must learn to eat are Tuwo masara, Tuwo shinkafa, etc and other of their delicacies. You will hardly see fufu or garri. Even if you see garri, it is a mixture of powdered chaff and cassava. You cannot see gala there. Even the Shinkafa (rice), some prepare is by boiling rice, then the stew is red oil, pepper and a mixture of yaji and pepper (uncooked).
.
6. There is a place in Biu called the Suya University. This place, you will see people who have talent with anything Suya.
.
7. Their females usually go with Hijab to cover their body, even in schools.
.
8. Almajiri. These children of almajiri are said to be of a nomadic school. I do pity them. You will see most of them in anywhere food is prepared or sth eatable sold. If you eat and remain, they feed from its remains.
.
9. Security is tighten. Due to the recent happenings of Boko Haram and bomb blasts, the Nigerian Army deployed mantra soldiers here. The NPF too, backed up by the soldiers are doing a good job
.
10. The Emir of Biu. The emirates system is also found in Biu and I was opportune to visit it and had one of its relative as course mate.

In the middle of nowhere with people still living in 1776 era then they have Nigerian army university, oil flow from the south goes straight into this failed project just to siphon money .

Are Fulanis a major group in Biu or are they seen as settlers?

I feel that the major challenge the Fulani have in modern Nigeria is the renown of their forebears for wondering. While many of today's established ethnic groups in Nigeria began to fully settle their final domains between 1600 to 1850, the Fulanis are still viewed today as migrants as their natural condition precluded them from settling permanently in any local.

this country is a useless country,Nigeria is existing to favor the North.

I blame southern politicians for all this nonsense sha,I think a party should be form by southerners, the sole aim will be to leave the Nigerian union, then after that the southern state can choose to either divide or remain together as one

The Babur/ Bura tribe are also the most educated in the region. Fulanis there are nomads as usual and they have never produced a governor in Borno state. If they stand they will be no match for the kauris. And OP there is no Marghi, Tera or Mina in BIU LGA. get your facts straight OP

You didn't list all the tribes. They still have another one called Kan-Ikulu, who have a high percentage of christians. Biu residents are mostly fishermen and farmers. Biu is close to Adamawa state.

Wow, i served in Biu 2009. My PPA was GSSSS, Biu. I had a wonderful time there, especially with the soldiers wives as I was teaching them English for a token. I was also taking school children after school lessons though language was a barrier as most of them don't understand English. The women would cook before I come and insist I eat before leaving every time I went to the barracks.
I would buy clothes from the main market and resell in the barracks. @Op, you are very correct about banks being filled every month end.
The NCCF family house where i stayed was a stone throw to the market and we would buy meat and foodstuffs at cheap prices.
The weather in Biu is similar to Jos, very cold especially at night.
