The joint Senate and House of Representatives’ Committee on Appropriations on the 2018 budget, Appropriation Bill report was not laid at the Senate before the plenary was adjourned by the chamber to Tuesday next week.

The Senate cancelled today’s plenary to enable the All Progressives Congress caucus members to prepare for the local government area party congresses holding on Saturday.

President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, on Monday said the report would be laid this week, while the passage of the budget would be done next week.

“Hopefully, it should be laid this week. If it can be laid this week and passed early next week. We are hoping it will be laid this week,” Saraki said.



Briefing journalists after the plenary on Wednesday, Sabi-Abdullahi, however, said,

“It was supposed to be laid this week but they are putting finishing touches. They are being careful not to make mistakes. The report will be laid on Tuesday and by Wednesday, we will approve it.

The good thing is that it is the harmonized version that will be laid. So, whatever is laid in the Senate will be laid in the House of Representatives, and it will be considered and passed the same time.”

The National Assembly’s failure to pass the 2018 Appropriation on Thursday as earlier planned was defended by the House of Representatives.

The House gave reasons that the N8.612tn budget had yet to be fine-tuned by the Joint Committee on Appropriations.

The Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Abdulrazak Namdas said the budget was scheduled for passage last week but had to be shifted to this week.

The budget was expected to be presented by the House of Representatives and the Joint committees on Appropriations of the Senate on April 19 but the report has not been laid since then.

The things our Senate is good at are:

1. Collecting bogus salary and mind blowing allowances

2. Summoning heaven and earth

3. Suspending themselves

There are two camps (pro and anti-Buhari) in the Senate and I can give two reasons why both supported that the passage be postponed till next week.

1. The anti-Buhari would do anything to undermine the executive.
2. The Pro-Buhari supported the idea because Bubu is currently in his second house in London and they are not sure if he'll be back this weekend as promised.

Buhari makes it difficult for his supporters to defend him. Only sycophants and zombies still support him. One is just directly above.
