The first time Radio and TV licensing was introduced in Nigeria was in the old defunct Western Region and this was after the setting up of the first TV broadcasting station in Ibadan. The reasons behind the TV licence was because the then state owned and financed TV and Radio station will partly be funded through this licence regime as they were the only and sole broadcasters in their time.

The licencing fee was applicable because Nigeria at that time operated regional form of governance.

With the coming of the Federal govt and the setting up of institutions like the NCC, who are solely to monitor and regulate Nigerian airwaves, I see no reason why Lagos which does not have any statutory responsibility in regulating the Nigerian Airwaves, will be taxing people for owning and operating a TV set when they (Lagos state) are neither in control of the airwaves or the content that is being broadcast.

Lagosians are however the dumbest people in Nigeria and they will not challenge this gross extortion by the thugs in Alausa but will quickly rush to pay up like the mugus they are.
