If we really want full youth participation in politics, lets make the door open with a not too poor to run bill

With the passage of Not Too Young To Run Bill, the party ticket price is still out of reach

We don't need to make another 'not too poor to run' law. What we need to do is to advocate for the amendment of the current electoral act to provide for a ceiling to the amount of money that a political party can sell its nomination form. The law can fix the maximum amount of a political party presidential form to N50,000. However, we must be ready to deal with the attendant consequences as all the major political parties will be flooded with an high number of aspirants that would be difficult to manage.

In addition, we need to also introduce a provision in the electoral act that will abolish the current delegate system of party primaries. It is a very useless system that ensures that only moneybags emerges as party candidates. Political elites now rig election at the party level. Since we have to choose between candidates of political parties, we all need to show more interest in how party candidates emerge. We need to adopt the American system whereby all party members congregate at various levels to elect the candidate of their choice. The winner at the ward or constituency level can then take all delegates available for that area. The current system is open to the manipulations of moneybags and influential party leaders and hence, wont throw up credible young candidates.
