A video of pupils in Kano state being served food in sheets of paper has gone viral. The video was released by the Voice of America Hausa yesterday June 4th.

According to VOA Hausa, the pupils complained that the food they were being given lacked ingredients like the one their parents give to them at home.

When the reporter asked why the pupils were being served food on pieces of papers, the teachers who refused to give their names, said the Federal government told them they were going to provide them with plates but they are still waiting for the plates.

Recall that during the 2015 election campaign, one of the promises of APC was to provide lunch for school pupils. The School Feeding programme was launched after they came into power and has taken off in some states.

It is shameful that many Nigerians will always try everything possible to to frustrate efforts of our leaders. Lets learn to appreciate good things when we see one. Feeding over 9 Million school children which we know that most of these children are from very poor homes and cant afford to eat three square meals are home is an aplaudable effort. Let's bear in mind that naturally one cant assimilate well when hungry. So to me, feeding this kids in school will as well bring them to the right state of mind to learn better.

Some people may never understand why this type of program can never work in Nigeria. There is no organised way of doing things in terms of managing the value chain, no accountability, distorted procurement system. Even if you do this a million times under our circumstances it will never work. We must enthrone merit as a basis for all we do. There is no other way.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well. You don't stop to look back with your hands on the plough.

There is nothing to commend in students being served in paper. Nothing worth so ever. What will it have cost to provide plates, even if it's "takeaway"?

This government is government of half measures that's why they are being celebrated by mediocre people.
