Oga oooooo. Does that means that the Queen of England doesn't mensurate?

Lol APC regime has mixed everything up. If you are are a Christian they will go to church, if you are a Muslim they will go to mosque if you are a traditionalist they are there, if you're a socialist they are there, if you are a teacher they will turn to one too.

I wonder what can't happen under this APC regime... But that's how it is supposed to be shall.

Leave your backwardness in Nigeria. Don’t apply it to the western world or people more advanced than you.

Yet trafficking is thriving at its peak today as we speak

Well, times change. Our ancestors were human beings just like us, with wisdom and weaknesses, who made laws and customs to fit their times. When they made those laws, they broke with the traditions of their precedessors. We owe it to them to consider the times and circumstances we're in, and break with traditions that no longer apply for a more equitable and just society.

This is just discrimination masquerading as tradition.

Not necessarily, but any society that restricts the potential of half its citizens can never even hope to become El Dorado.

. the binis r no coward u know what it took to hold d Britons for nine days before they could enter Benin kingdom.I have never heard of any tribe in modern Nigeria that showed DAT patriotic spirit displayed by d binis.we were never scared of being killed despite d technological advantage d Britons had and fact that they came Wit 1200 personnel including d local ones ur kindred gave to them.they had heavy casualty on their side. A man cannot become d queen of England so a woman cannot be d oba of Benin I don't see how it affects the development of the nation. we have had women in enviable position in the society.

Yet a kingdom ruled by a woman(Britain) came and ransacked a kingdom ruled by a "brave" man. Leadership isn't by gender.

Instead of people to focus on how to enter the eternal kingdom of God; a holy paradise; they are busy wasting their time on this demonic, ephemeral institution with too many rituals.

Long story short: the title 'OBA' signifies a male gender. If a female is chosen it would change to something else.
I've never heard of female sultans or emirs, so... what's the person's point again?
Those are pseudo-traditional titles.

I just admire Benin with their good sense of history which is very traceable. I don't know if anyone can help me with this: When Oba Ovoramwen Nnogbaisi was exiled, did his son continue or was the lineage broken and another family installed? Thanks as I expect a good historian to give me facts.
It was reported that the British wanted to imposed their friend "Chief Obaseki" on the people as Oba after Oba Ovoramwen was captured and exiled to Calabar, but the Binis vehemently resisted and rejected the move. As such, Ovoramwen's son was crowned as Oba of Benin [Eweka II]. So it's the same family still ruling til date.

Indeed his son became Oba Eweka ll in 1914. Oba Ovonramwen passed on in 1914 in Calabar exile and his son was crowned in Benin same year. The period of exile from 1897 to 1914 is called the interregnum in Benin history. It was not quite so easy though.

The British schemed to install another king (a stooge) during exile period but of course Benin people will never allow that even if the Oba spent 100 years in exile.
In 1914 just to persuade the British to restore the monarchy, the British insisted on giving up on the empire and renouncing historical claims of overlordship over Lagos (though technically lost in 1853) when Britain defeated Eleko Kosoko (a Benin loyalist) to support Eleko Dosunmu (called Docemo in British documents). Also renounced overlordship over swathes of Eastern Yoruba land, Edo North and Central and much of Delta.

In the 100 years since history has been so rewritten by some envious and dubious entities (nonentities more like grin) to deny Benin ever had an empire. Despite ancient accounts and documents of Western explorers detailing the empire.

After 1897 conquest Benin decided to look inward mostly and preserve the unique culture. But it is under some threat from overzealous pentecostal Christians especially non-Benin ones with no attachment to the culture.
They forget that the greatest non-human assets of Egypt is their pagan ancient Egyptian cultural heritage preserved jealously. And that is a Sunni Muslim country.

As we have seen in UK and several modern developed countries, zealous Christian movements lose steam as society industrializes, develops and people solve their problems largely through modern science, medicine, tech, social welfare system etc.

Thanks Areafada. This is a real eye opener. Thank God for Benin, these white people almost succeeded in wiping out every trace of history in Nigeria. See the way they toyed with Lagos and other Yoruba kingdoms. Preservation of culture is good. We had it until the white people came to make us inferior in our domain.

Yeah I heard of them trying to impose Obaseki. Thank God for Staunch Benin citizens who stood their ground and I am glad the monarchy is still being preserved unlike some places where history has been distorted.

Uhn?

Both mean and women can be royals of the UK. That a woman is there now does not mean a man won't or cant be there next.

All your other points are mute. You think the Benins fought the full strength of the British in the punitive expedition? lol! Not even close.

The entire point is that Africa needs to do away or reform backward practices.
