A couple who attempted to traffic cocaine out of the country using their six-year old twins, have been apprehended.

Announcing the arrest of the duo - Jimoh Bashir and Jimoh Milikat - at the weekend, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) disclosed that the couple will be charged for child abuse and drug trafficking, as it described the act by the parents as a complete show of contempt on the rights of their children.

Mitchell Ofoyeju, spokesperson for the agency, disclosed that Mr. Bashir allegedly connived with his wife to conceal 350g of cocaine each on the diaper of their twins on their way to London.

“Both parents and their kids were apprehended as they were about boarding an Arik Air flight to London, and the wife concealed 3.35kg on her body with some on her bra and some in her underwear,” he said.

“The innocent six-year old twins were also used in packing 700g of illicit drugs, which brought the total quantity of cocaine to 4.05kg.”

Condemning the act by the couple in a statement, the chairman of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, said that it is unlawful for the parents to take advantage of their innocent children’s to involve them in a serious criminal act of drug trafficking.

“The action of the couple is callous, morally depraved, and unacceptable,” he said. “Apart from charging them on the grounds of drug trafficking, they will also be charged for child abuse, for no society will overlook such act of debasement.”

The Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) commander of the agency, Hamza Umar, revealed that investigations into the case is currently at an advanced stage and that other accomplices shall be made to face the wrath of the law.

Mr. Umar disclosed that the couple, who runs a superstore in one of the highbrow areas in Lagos, Ajah, got involved in drug peddling after being duped the sum of N2.2 million.

According to the agency’s airport commander, times became tough for the duo as they had to smuggle drugs to pay school fees for their kids.

The father of the family, Mr. Bashir, in his statement disclosed that they were to be paid 3,000 pounds by their contractors, adding that he was swayed by his wife to commit the crime.

“Initially I rejected the suggestion, but they convinced my wife who persuaded me to do it,” he said.

Meanwhile, the agency disclosed that the children have been freed.

“The children have been released to their family members but for the couple they will be charged to court,”

Yes we can condemn these parents and even call for them to be lynched but look at the situation in Nigeria, the politicians are committing much more heinous crimes with government/tax payers money. Make una no blame dem again, na biz wey 1 wish to do be that, u can only blame them if they'v gotten enough money and stil continue with the bizness, not minding who'll take care of the children if they are caught. afterall, europe, a well developed place that has good leaders, good road, steady light, a comfortable place and where u and i wish to go, is the headquater where they run the biz. me i no too blame dem oo abeg, dem really use better brain for that biz. they knows that the biz is ilegal, and secondly, involving their children on it but they have sacrificed to face the consiquence that'll come thier way whenever they'r caught. mind u, i don't think this is the 1st tyme they'r going for such risky biz, it's just that, they were not lucky on this trip and met their water loo. they know's quiet alryght that if they'r caught, that their children will be freed and definately thaz what it is, it's either the children will be under the care of the government or the gorvernment 'll hand them (the children) to the victims family members. they themselfs'll be the one to face the penalty. Now according to them, they said they started the bizness after they were duped 2.2million naira.Not that they don't have enough money again to take care of the children buh daz just the logic they've been using in smuggling the cocain abroad, and don't be surprise that even the children knows about the biz. i know so many pipu will disagree with me and even call me sort's of name on this 1 buh as naija wey we be, na only doz wey don large eye na'em go understand wetin i mean. and make una no even dey surprise say within the next 2-3 months, government don release doz pipu codedly with connection.
