EXCERPT FROM MY BOOK, VANE: THE GENESIS OF REVELATIONS
Chichi was a big jerk and Vanessa knew that all too well. She was standing at the end of a really long queue and she felt like strangling her sister. If she only had an ATM card, it would have been so much easier. Vanessa grumbled to herself. Her thoughts drifted to Bob. The way he stared at her made her feel weak. A feeling she never wanted to possess. Weakness was for others, not Vanessa Pepple. To be weak in this world meant instant death. But still…
She chided herself. She knew all too well that the guy had no feelings towards her. He held no feelings at all. Lately, he had become a little more open. If only…
Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard someone scream. She turned towards the source of the scream and saw it. A beast covered with scales. Sharp teeth gleaming, it advanced slowly. Its yellow reptilian eyes were fixed on hers. She gasped and stayed perfectly still. It uttered a loud roar that trembled the stones of the building and threatened to bring it all crashing down. It hunched ready to spring. Vanessa cringed. Even as it sprang, a figure barrelled from the ether like lightening, slamming into the brute. They went headlong, destroying everything in their wake. People screamed trying to get out of their way and get cover. Some fool was using the opportunity to steal from the cash register.
The battle raged on. The two combatants were locked in battle. Silhouetted against the rising soot, Naira notes flying everywhere.
Soot! Vanessa realized there was fire in the building. They had to get out.
Vane and the monster came together in a rush, hacking at the monsters scale threatening to tear it off. There was blood. The beast bellowed and with force, slammed Vane against the wall splintering stone. But now, the fire was everywhere. Soot obscured their visibility. They were unaffected. Vane got back up immediately, his bruises closing. The two combatants circled each other like wolves. Each one weighing the others weakness and strength.
Vane feigned an attack, the monster moved. Vane saw his opening. He sprang, sending the monster toppling back into the fire. He could hear the howl. Then it stopped. Vane didn’t have time to see it coming. It sprang with force. Vane dodged but wasn’t fast enough. The beast missed but the scaly tail struck heavily on Vane’s cheek. Cutting a big gash. Black blood started seeping out of the wound. With Vane momentarily stunned, the monster appeared. Flying through the inferno beyond. Flames surrounded the beast. Vane closed fearlessly and sprang.
