@OP why not go on ba.com and book 'multi city', that gives you options to stay in London, re-connect to the US on a later date, and might also work out cheaper as its only on 1 airline.

yes, you can and if you plan it well, you will end up saving yourself some good extra bucks.

i am aware klm is doing some good deals on the lagos-london route at the moment.

you can buy the london-newyork ticket from lagos or london . . . . whichever suits you or works cheaper for you.

i have had someone buy a london-lagos return ticket for me fully paid for in nigeria and the reference number texted to me and that was all i showed to the airline crew at heathrow and i had no hassles.

and its best you do not buy a BA ticket. . . . so much uncertainty with all their planned strikes
