A cart pusher, Ismaila Jafaru, who allegedly impersonated a police officer, was on Friday brought before an Igbosere Magistrate Court in Lagos.

The prosecution had alleged that the accused impersonated a chief superintendent of police in a bid to secure the release of a colleague in police custody.

Mr. Jafaru, 40, who is facing a two-count charge of impersonation and unlawful possession of police identity card, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Raymond Odion, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 13 at the premises of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad at Adeniji Adele, Lagos.

Mr. Odion alleged that a police identity card belonging to Enoch Omega, a corporal, was found on him, an offence which, he said, contravened Sections 109 and 430 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State.

The magistrate, Makanju Oshodi, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to July 12 for further hearing.
