UNESCO Adds Kenya’s Lake Turkana To List Of Endangered World Heritage Sites by ANNTV: 5:02pm On Jun 29, 2018
A UNESCO panel has added Lake Turkana, a conservation hot-spot in Kenya and a candidate site for the birthplace of mankind, to the list of endangered world heritage sites on Thursday.

The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s World Heritage Committee expressed concern about the disruptive effect of Ethiopia’s Gibe III Dam “on the flow and ecosystem” of Lake Turkana downstream.

UNESCO said in a statement on Thursday that the impact “poses further threat to the site”.

Located in northwestern Kenya and known as the Jade sea, Lake Turkana is the most saline lake in East Africa and the largest desert lake in the world.
