Manchester United superstar David De Gea became the first goalkeeper since 1966 to have made the least number of saves in three games at the World Cup.

The 27-year-old wasn't impressive for the Spanish national team at the ongoing FIFA World Cup having made just one save from the seven shots on goal.

In their opening Group B encounter against Portugal, De Gea couldn't save any of Crisitiano Ronaldo's three shots on target, with the second one slipping off his hands.


However, La Furia Roja(The Spanish side) were eliminated by the host country Russia on penalties in the round of 16 on Sunday, July 1.

The Red Devils' keeper was unable to save any of the Russians penalties while Igor Akinfeev saved Koke's penalty.

According to Spanish news outlet, Marca reports that De Gea made his first stop against Morocco in the final group stage game, the opponents shot three times and scored two goals. He did make a block when one-on-one with Khalid Boutaib.

FiFA should please take note of these facts and keep them in their archives for record purposes and it should also be used in future when selecting players to represent Nigeria at World cup games

That guy shut me up with his outing in this world cup. He's been my best with some unbelievable saves, but what I saw in this competition made me think the eyes has started paining him again.

He performed below expectations this world cup. This is not the DeGea of Man u

Spain just needed a scapegoat and De gea presented himself. The only goal he was at fault was the Ronaldo spill and it was basically pointless at last because they topped the group. There was nothing he could have don to stop the remaining five goals he conceded.

The fact is just that Spain are vulnerable with their stupid possession based style of play which leaves them badly exposed on the counter. All the teams just sit deep and defend knowing a good chance will present itself and when it does, they simply take it.

De gea still remains the best shot-stopper in the world and the new season will prove it once again.
