- Christian clerics in Imo state have condemned bill on cattle ranching that is currently in the state House of Assembly - The cleric under the aegis of Concerned Church Leaders Forum want the Assembly to get rid of the bill - They said they were taking last week’s assurance by Speaker Acho Ihim that the piece of legislation was dead before arrival, with a pinch of salt Religious leaders under the aegis of Concerned Church Leaders Forum on Tuesday, July 24, demanded that the bill on cattle ranching currently before the Imo House of Assembly be thrown away. The Guardian reports that the religious leaders, consisting of bishops of various denominations, asked why the bill found its way into the Assembly after it had been rejected by legislatures in the southeast zone over a year ago. NAIJ.com gathers that the clerics, consisting of bishops of various denominations, spoke under the auspices of Concerned Church Leaders Forum yesterday in Owerri. The national vice president of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Dr Cosmas Ilechukwu, was accompanied by the bishop of Anglican Diocese of Orlu, Geoffrey Chukwuneye, while briefing journalists after their meeting in the capital. According to the religious leaders, they were taking last week’s assurance by Speaker Acho Ihim that the piece of legislation was dead before arrival, with a pinch of salt. Ilechukwu said: “We vehemently oppose the bill by the Imo House of Assembly to establish cattle ranches in the state. "We feel ashamed of that legislature that could not provide a cost benefit analysis of such vicious project before enacting a law to support same." The association reacting to reports of the state's House of Assembly passing a bill to support ranching in the state said the bill was aimed at gaining cheap popularity. The secretary of the Imo CAN, Reverend Eches Divine, said the lawmaker in the House wanted to use the bill to attract a favour.
