Update to this most interesting thread. More rail news to unpack. The Lagos-Kano standard guage should be referred to as Lagos-Maradi since its the last stop. This will ultimately benefit Lagos if Nigeria's plans work out. Niger is landlocked so it relies on Benin's port. They currently dont have a rail line so they have to truck goods.

● Lagos gets to export Nigers goods
● Kaduna exports directly there.

What if every State decide to build 3-7 (modular) refineries , buy crude oil from Tchad, Niger Republic, Cameroon, Benin Republic or the Niger Delta and start refining for their local consumptions, that mean every State will get 13% derivative?

BabaRamota1980:
Kaduna Inland Dry Port

1- Any goods imported and shipped to Kaduna Port can no longer be cleared at Lagos Port. It can only be cleared at Kaduna.

Gains and Losses -
Kaduna gained
Lagos looses

2- Customs and Excise posts will now be established at Kaduna port to clear goods, to inspect and intercept and to derive excise duties for the State and FG.

Gains and Losses -
a. Kaduna gains a component of VAT previously collected at Lagos.

b. Kaduna IGR will surge from excise duties, warehousing and auction sale of abandoned goods.

3- Export goods can be shipped directly from Kaduna.

Gains and Losses -
Foreign Exchange advantage to local banks and BdC for trades and swaps.

Political Advantage

Arewa is doing business from a well articulated angle by divesting institutionalized national wealth into advantage for itself and breaking its dependency on South.

This is a replay of 1956.

When approached to prepare for Independence Arewa said it was not ready and would need few more years to catch up to South which was in a ready state for self-rule.

Arewa has repeatedly been reminded lately of the need to restructure the political contracts of Nigeria and its ethnic groups. This in short will translate to divestiture of national institutions and their accruing wealth. Currently national wealth is centralized and shared from the Federal Government in a formula that benefits most the zones with more local governments, and this happens to be Arewa. When it is restructured national wealth will become regional wealths. The benefits and advantages will shift South.

Arewa are much aware but were never prepared to fill gaps for the shift in economic sustenance. In other words, South is ready for restructuring but Norh is not.

The unbundling of Lagos ports for goods that are destined for markets in North is a smart move towards economic independence for Arewa. It is a good vision that should be supported by Yoruba's DAWN and promoted by Western Governors.

Katsina Refinery

1- When launched Katsina becomes an oil producing state and will get 13% as currently formulated in FAAC sharing structure. If revised in future it will get whatever allocation is authorized to oil producing states.

Gains and Losses
a. Katsina becomes a respectable income earner.

b. Katsina becomes a distribution hub for oil demands and markets in the Sahel and Sahara belt and earns foreign exchange directly.

c. Niger Delta, Ondo and Lagos, current designated oil producing states loose a component of allocation to Katsina.

2- Katsina refinery can become a counter-offensive and sustain supply and income during spells of sabotage by militants in Delta.

Gains and Losses -
Niger Delta militancy and destruction of oil installations will have less impacts on consumption and trade in North.

Political Advantage
Arewa views oil as a commodity of faith. The Islamic North believes Allah has handed them the divine right to rule Nigeria and that this right is tied to their religious faith Islam. The Arewa sultanate believes finding oil wells in North will complete its political and religious status as a bonafide Islamic State in peerage with Islamic States in Arabia. For this purpose the FG has not stopped testing for oil prospects in river basins in the North.

The planned acquisition of Middlebelt by a militant force is not just for cattle grazing..but more importantly for the water resources found in the basin and prospects for oil.

There is a gradual plan to either find and establish independent economic resource in North, or where that proves impossible to manipulate advantages and change fortunes with existing ones for benefit of Arewa.

None of these can be achieved without political supremacy at the center. Buhari has done for North in four years what no other Northern government has ever been able to do in 58yrs. The positioning of Arewa over ports authority, customs, security and oil ministry are pre-calculated objectives that we see yielding results in North. Given another 4yrs he can bring Nigeria into complete subordination under Arewa political and permanent dominance.

FriendNG:
BabaRamota1980 Baro water port and Lokoja water port is the key not Kaduna dry port.

Baro port will be commissioned in few weeks to come while lokoja is @75% completion.

By the way how did u write an entire post without insult, tribalism and hate this time?
What is holding Baro river port and Onitsha River port is second Niger bridge project, there is no way containers batch suppliers can sail from warri port to Onitsha or Baro, JB has blocked the River Niger from Onitsha end, the ports will start functioning once they complete the bridge that many reason For is rushing the project, JB promised to deliver the project in 2020/2021
