FOLLOWING an earlier revelation by General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye to partner with the Anglican Communion on Evangelism, the G.O. took time from the ongoing 66th annual convention of the church to host the new bishop of the Diocese of Lagos, Rt. Rev. Humphery Olumakaiye.

Adeboye had announced earlier in the year that the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby are planning a programme to intensify evangelism in Europe to bring people to Christ.

As far back as July 2015 the Anglican Communion has been holding talks on the possibility of a collaboration with the Redeemed Christian Church of Church, RCCG, nationally and internationally.
The new bishop of the Lagos diocese told reporters on Tuesday, after a meeting with the RCCG General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, at the Redemption Camp, Ogun State, on Tuesday that two churches will hold a crusade as part of activities marking the centenary celebration of the Anglican Church.

Olumakaiye, who was ordained bishop of the Lagos Diocese on July 30, said the ecumenical visit to Adeboye was to share ideas with him and collaborate with the church.

He said: “The Diocese of Lagos is the premier diocese in the Church of Nigeria, African Communion, and mother to over 160 dioceses and many other denominations. And being the bishop of the diocese ordained on July 30, 2018, I decided to visit Pa Adeboye, who is one of the foremost Christian leaders in this country.

“The visit was also to fulfill the five-fold mandate that I have for the diocese and Christendom, which are priestly, pastoral, prophetic, prayer and praise ministries.
“We had a very fruitful discussion and I told him that a unity crusade would be coming up next year to mark the centenary anniversary of the Lagos Diocese and we want him to be part of the crusade which would involve many denominations and about 160 Anglican dioceses across the country,” the new bishop stated.

According to him, Pastor Adeboye, who began his Christian voyage at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Ifewara in Osun State, was excited about the crusade and gave the assurance of the RCCG’s participation and support because he believed in the Anglican Church..

According to Olumonkaye, Adeboye said the Anglican Church was his heritage because he was a former member of the church and his father was a lay reader of the Anglican Church, pointing out that he is now working with the Archbishop of Canterbury Welby to win souls.

Shedding more light on the RCCG-Anglican Church partnership, a source in London said; “Pastor Adeboye and his delegation, including Pastor Agu Irukwu, Chief Overseer of the RCCG in the UK, actually visited the Archbishop in 2015 and has maintained contact. RCCG is one of the Churches that endorsed the Archbishop of Canterbury’s initiative – “Thy Kingdom Come.”

Adeboye, during the meeting with the Archbishop led prayers for Christian unity and revival.

Afterwards the Archbishop and the Pastor spent time in private discussion and prayer. During the visit, Pastor Adeboye was also shown a selection of precious items from the Lambeth Palace Library, including works relating to the first black Anglican bishop, Samuel Ajayi Crowther.
