The wild jubilation among members of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State that they were cruising home to victory in Saturday's by-Election in Portharcourt State Constituency 3 has been cut short as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has suspended the exercise.

The Commission in a statement Saturday evening said its action was due to widespread electoral malpractices and violence that characterised the election.

Rivers People were expecting the official announcement of the results before the sudden u-turn by INEC.

Both the PDP and APC were yet to react to the INEC decision.

The winner here is not the APC or the PDP. The winner here is INEC for maintaining a fair neutrality,and doing the right thing after the election was marred by irregularities.

perhaps you are not residing in Rivers otherwise you would have seen massive rigging by APC in collusion with the security forces

Am so scared for the future of this country.Choosing of our leaders is gradually turning into a commercial process .Where the highest bidder coast home with Victory.
Am so weak even in porthacourt ,people can really collect as low as 2k,3k from politicians to sell their votes.
The desperation of APC to win elections these days and attribute it to people still wanting Buhari is appalling.
**I hope the suspension is not another means of giving victory to APC through back door as done to Senator Magnus Abe votes allocation after suspension in the last re-run election in Rivers Central senatorial election .

Shebi na only suspension? No problem. Like any competition, the sanctity of the goals/points scored must be preserved when hostilities is suspended. PDP was already gasping, anyway The walloping can cease for now but the reprieve can't last long. PDP must return to the ring for the inevitable knockout.
