inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has apologised to elder statesman, Edwin Clark over the raid of his house on Tuesday.

The IG sent a delegation of senior police officers, led by DIG Habila Joshak (DIG DOPs), alongside some commissioners of police to visit the elder statesman and apologize on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force and the IGP.

According to a statement by DCP Jimoh Moshood, Acting Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the apology was for "the misconducts of the said Police personnel and the attendant embarrassment the search has caused on the elder statesman and his family”.

See the full statement below...

IGP sends high powered delegation of a DIG and other Senior Police Officers to apologize to the Elder statesman

1. Further to the earlier Press Statement from the Nigeria Police Force on the directives of the Inspector General of Police for immediate detention and Investigation of the Four(4) Police Personnel (including a Senior Police Officer) and an informant involved in the unauthorized, illegal and unprofessional misconduct in the Search of Chief Edwin Clark’s Residence in Asokoro, Abuja, today 4th September, 2018.

2. The IGP as stated in the Press Statement was not aware and did not authorize the search and has therefore sent a delegation of Senior Police Officers, led by DIG HABILA JOSHAK (DIG DOPs) along with some Commissioners of Police who visited the Elder Statesman, Chief Edwin Clark and apologized on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force and the IGP for the misconducts of the said Police Personnel and the attendant embarrassment the search has caused on the Elder Statesman and his family. The delegation was received by Chief Edwin Clark and the apology was accepted by him.

3. Furthermore, the Inspector General of Police has directed that while the Four (4) Police Personnel are in Detention and being investigated and tried within the Force Disciplinary Procedures before appropriate punishments are meted out to them, the IGP has directed the immediate parade of the informant(Suspect) on Wednesday 5th September, 2018 in the presence of the press and the public, before his prompt arraignment and prosecution in Court.

All these raids in homes of some individuals especially opposition voces by security agencies have become a national embarrassmen.
Ike Ekweremmadu, Saraki, and now Elder statesman Edwin Clark have all been victims.
More embarrassing is the fact that after each raíz, the police Will come out to say it"s not authorised bla bla bla....

This is outright negligence on the part of the IG and should be sanctioned accordingly.

In Oliver de coque's voice, all heads are eqaul is only on the lips. Head is bigger than heads.
Some are more human than other humans.

We ve had a case if innocent people being detained for crime they no nothing about, SARS murder innocent Hungary, some good looking healthy Nigerians on daily basis.

Complaint is over the media. There are targeted shootings open innocent citizens. Yet not even a police cobra had ever apologized to the victims.

Now because a bigger head is involved, we are seeing this hypocritical display.

Shame on APC govt

You are very foolish for this statement. Who apology help?

Armed robbers should rob you and when they are caught, apologize and after that everyone sings kumbaya.

Everyone involved in this illegal raid must be investigated and prosecuted.

USELESS APOLOGY!!!

The President should as a matter of fact and urgency sack this nincompoop and he himself resign too. You ordered a raid after his call for you to be sacked. You hoped u will find something incriminating and behold you find nothing. You start apologizing knowing fully well that the raid was without a court approval hence you are culpable of unauthorized invasion and intrusion.
It's only fools that will take this apology to mean a damn thing.

Such a high profile personality has his home raided without the idea of the IG is even a sign of incompetence and even if the raid was his idea, its a total disregard to the rule of law.
Which ever face of the coin it shows still will lead to dismissal in a saner clime.

"Mr I don't know" IG.

Can you see the height of hypocrisy, why single out the officers rather than those who sent them to go and search the elder states man's home.

Their preliminary investigation ought to have revealed who authorised the search in the first place and go straigth for them rather sway the public by pretending to be working by detaining ordinary officers obeying an order from 'oga' at the top. This is akin to the drama that played out at the NASS where they were looking for who authorised a siege on the complex. Very useless bunch of dictators everywhere you go.

Police has no right to search anyone's house without a court warrant issued by a judge. That is the law. Just because lawlessness pervades does not mean it is normal. Who issued the search warrant on what ground?

Quite sad and embarrassing that the youth do not care to know basic human rights.

Searching is no big deal, but doing so without legal permission as the law stipulates is a VERY big deal.
