The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has formally declared his intention to run for Senate in the 2019 general elections.

He made the declaration on Wednesday during a meeting with the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

During the declaration, the governor opted for a consensus governorship candidate for the 2019 election.

He advised the party members to accept the consensus result in good faith without which the next option would be direct primary.

This is too bad for us as a country angry angry

And this is why this country might never get better...

Every governor wants to go for a second term..As if its not enough, after the second term, they run to the Senate where they struggle(with our looted funds) to remain till God intervenes...

I am of the opinion that our constitution be amended to allow only those who have not governed any state to run for Senate and remain there for a maximum period of 5years , so that this thing can go round..Since it has now become clear that the Senate is where the money is being shared under various ridiculous guises

Is it not ridiculous that David Mark has been in the senate for over 16 years? ..And if he fails to win the primaries, he will most likely run to the Senate again?

Greedy and selfish politicians. Senate is now their retirement home where they earn millions of Naira monthly for doing nothing.

PDP commences distribution of 100,000 membership cards in Sokoto

SOURCE:https://www.infonewsnigeria.com/discussion/4156/pdp-commences-distribution-of-100-000-membership-cards-in-sokoto#latest

The Sokoto State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Wednesday commenced the distribution of 100,000 membership cards to members, vowing to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 governorship election in the state.

Addressing party chairmen of the 23 local government areas in Sokoto, the state PDP Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma, said the 100,000 cards would be distributed to all members in the state.

He said a four-man committee had been set up in each of the 23 local government areas of the state to ensure the smooth registration of all members.

Milgoma explained that both old PDP and new members were eligible to register in their wards, adding that all members would be treated equally without any discrimination.

“This is our first stakeholders meeting since Governor Aminu Tambuwal left APC to join PDP. We are all united and there is no discrimination and division whatsoever between old and new PDP members.

“We have set up a committee in each local government to ensure smooth distribution of the membership cards. Thus, we are ready to provide more membership cards as soon as these ones have finished,” he said.

He emphasised that the PDP would defeat the APC in the 2019 governorship elections in the state.

According to him, the APC-led federal government had failed to meet the yearning of Nigerians and would be voted out in 2019.

“We are resolute in our determination to defeat the APC in the 2019 governorship elections in the state and have no doubt we will achieve our aims.

“There is mass poverty in the country and the people are in dire need of change because the last three years have yielded nothing but suffering to the masses,” Milgoma added.

Also speaking, a former Commissioner for Rural Development in the state, Alhaji Mani Maishinko, said the APC had pauperised Nigerians because of bad policies and programmes.

He lamented that people were really suffering, while insecurity had worsened in the country in the last three years.

“The last three years have shown that APC cannot take Nigeria to the next level. So, the only way out is for people to obtain their permanent voter cards and vote for PDP in the forthcoming elections,”

Though every state governor claims to be turning their state into London grin, Amosun's own is verifiable. His strides can be seen around the state, especially the capital. If not for the unfortunate reason that a bulk of Nigerian politicians are looters, there's actually nothing wrong in staying in governance for up to 15 years as far as your constituents continue to see you as worthy of representation.
In the US, there are senators who have been in Congress for at least 30 years, but their difference from ours is that both the primary and main elections are direct - making the whole electorate to continuously have a say on who represents them and the possibility of bribing voters nearly non-existent.

There should be a 10 to 15 years gap in our constitution to control the greed of our serving governors that are rushing to become senator while their current tenure as governors is closing out.

Why are they eager to become senator?

Is it not the money that is the point of attraction?

When the constitution is amended it will check the excesses of our so called BREAD AND BUTTER Politicians.

Their long throat is too much.

They want to have everything for themselves and their generation unborn.

Nigeria 's political class should know that illicit material pursuit is all vanity.

Good name is better than the riches of this world.
