President Muhammadu Buhari has said that before Nigerians demand to see the changes he promised them during the 2015 election, they must first change their own attitude by shunning corruption and other social vices.

He adds that change is not about economic or social progress, but it is in terms of citizens’ personal behaviour.

Buhari said this while delivering a speech at the inauguration of the national re-orientation campaign tagged, ‘Change Begins With Me’ in Abuja on Thursday.

The President acknowledged that Nigeria is currently passing through a challenging period where hardly anything works normally.

He lamented that honesty, hard work and godliness had given way to all kinds of manifestations of lawlessness and degeneration in our national life.

Buhari said, “Our citizens must realise that the change they want to see begins with them, and that personal and social reforms are not a theoretic exercise. If you have not seen the change in you, you cannot see it in others or even the larger society.

“In other words, before you ask ‘Where is the change they promised us?’, you must first ask, ‘How far have I changed my ways? What have I done to be part of the change for the greater good of society?’

The President said his government had done well in the fight against corruption, adding that the fresh campaign was a way of getting Nigerians to join in the struggle.

He added, “The campaign we are about to launch today is all about the need for us to see change, not merely in terms of our economic, social progress but in terms of our personal behaviour on how we conduct ourselves, engage our neighbours, friends and generally how we relate with the larger society in a positive and definitive way and manner that promotes our common good and common destiny, change at home, change in work place, change at traffic junction, change at traffic lights, etc.”

He said the value system of the nation had been eroded and that was why students would prefer to embrace cultism rather than face their studies. He said it was for the same reason youths were vandalising oil pipelines thus robbing the nation of much-needed resources.

Once upon a time, the destiny of a great country rest upon the shoulder of an old man. His name is Buhari. In the year 2015, this old man promised Nigerians heaven on earth. But in 2018, this same old man all of a sudden became a motivational speaker. He started by motivating Nigerians to look themselves inside the mirror and questioned their inner man what change they've brought to their country. In other word, how have you impacted your country as a youth? What have you contributed to her advancement? What can you do? What have you done? Our problem in this country is that we don't have a dream. We only care about making a living. We don't care about the fate of our country. We only care about living luxurious lifestyle and taking good care of our families. Ask people how they plan to build their country, they will resort to unnecessary complaints about lack of basic infrastructures like good roads and good medical facilities. Is it lack of good roads that stopped our computer science students from doing something more innovative like building the next generational programming language, compilers, 3D software, browsers and engaging in other software enhancement projects. All our programmers do here is to design a website and make ends meet. Though Buhari is not a competent and a visionary leader but the rate at which people depend on the government can be so annoying. Though I disagree with his superficial claim that change is not all about economy growth. He's such an unrepentant dunce. A lifeless one for that matter.

smiley to be fair and not to redicule buhari. he isn't a wealth creator. his major training in the army was been a combatant. his training in mons military college Sandhurst UK is transport and mechanical specialist, and his training at US war college is strategic studies (more like war management and international relations). that is why since his 35 years military career with huge salary and estacodes, and appointments as a ptdf chairman. he just can't create wealth or jobs directly or indirectly. he wasn't trained to manage wealth rather military vehicles and war situation.

This is the truth and nothing but the truth.

I remember when he introduced WAI with the same mindset of change begins with you and it was a huge hit. Nigeria and Nigerians suddenly developed a sense of worth and value for each other and the system automatically.

If lasting change must be seen or felt then we must be part of the change.

The economy cannot change with us remaining the same and even when it does change, we will erode it again because we refused to change with it.

Baba my vote is yours 2019 sure gan.

Hmmmmm truly Old age has set in.

Baba Buhari you have really tried, you can't do more than this.

Please allow another individual to continue from where you stopped. We need someone who has a broad mental capacity. Someone who understands the era and time we are.

We need someone that is intellectually sound. A leader must be able to see farther than the follower. Then where the follower sees more than the leader then there is a big problem.

In this era we are, we need someone who can see, think and prepare 50yrs ahead.

We need someone who will bring an ideology which will bring boost to the economy of the nation and revamp all sectors that are down.

We need someone that when he speaks at the comity of nations we would be proud for his vibrancy and articulation of words.

Nigeria shall be great.

Buhari is very stupid if he actually made this statement.

Who is interested in his yeye philosophy? Nigerians want political leaders who can deliver visible changes in their living conditions.... Not a motivational speaker.

going by your assertion if he is not a "wealth creator " as a president and the number one citizen of the country an sorry then we are doomed cos wealth creation cannot be removed from the core objective of any nation the reason for budgetary ( Budget = estimated revenue and proposed expenditure) ..focus on the estimated revenue aspect of the budget that itself it's wealth creation to a large extent .

And the last time I checked economic progress especially in the area of economic development is core when it comes to positive change recorded by a nation cos nations are compared mainly based on economic growth and development Overtime.

Am sorry sir your point can easily be argued ..

God bless Nigeria
