This man is like the other politicians leading this country backward with their outdated ideas.

Nigeria doesn't lack money, what we lack is innovative leaders. If anybody, be him a governor or president can't pay a minimum wage of 50k, then such a leader is poor in ideas and innovation.

How can a governor complain of common 50k minimum wage, when a he has so many means of generating money in the state, aside the monthly allocated from the federal govt.

A leader who knows his onions, will always search for the right people to work together. Use the workers aright, pay them what's due to them and watch the outcome. A serious governor will always have serious workers.

The man has a point though. LGs & States cannot afford it. Too many states & LGAs were created, creating a bloated bureaucracy & civil service.

We need to re-organise our tiers of government. Introduce 6 regions, removes states and strengthen local councils/LGAs. Let FG handle foreign affairs, defence, currency, Inter-regional crimes, part of higher education, National Health scheme, Innovation, Science & Rese, etc. Reduce centralisation. Natural resources will be shared FG (35%), Region (40%), LGA where resource is (25%).

Re-organisation will help grow the economy, create better quality jobs with better pay, reduce bloated public recurrent expenditure that makes capital projects almost impossible.

The gap between the salaries of political office holders and the civil servants are damn too wide.Reduce the salaries of the elected politicians by 200% then I'm sure we can have a successful increment for the civil servants. .Do the maths
If you reduce something by 200% you will be left with nothing.

The 50k demanded by Labour is too small. How can less than $40 be minimum wage in a country like Nigeria. It’s shameful, minimum wage shld be at least 120k.

Our political leaders who nothing are receiving na looting billions everyday while the masses are given peanuts as take home every month.

Don't blame them blame the masses.

I still marvel how people expect the APC to keep to their words? lol, this is a party that denied all its campaign promises. All you need to knw about APC antecedence is how it treated those that helped it to power. The APC dnt keep promises.

Did you read the article at all?

Government have no money to psy salaries at 18,000 and many state government are owing many months salaries already. Where then will they find money to 100,000?if they are owing many month at 18,000, how many years pay will they be owing if it is 100,000? Please tell me

Also, stop making reference to the greedy National Assembly or House of representatives. There's no correlation

Which to you is cheaper? Pay 10 people N500 each or paying 1,000 people N20 naira each?

The legislators are just a tiny percentage of the civil service. There is ratio is probably less than 1 legislator to a 1,000 civil servants

the caption should have been, why Nigeria will never move forward, how should a politician be earning millions in a month with absolutely nothing to point at as an achievement but workers can even a get a good and you want them to be dedicated to their work, still yearning for a pay rise in 2018, this is nothing but sheer wickedness, i wish Ogun can be fast in killing all tis old wicked fools without conscience

chigozie2018:
Second republic senator, Chief Olorunnimbe Farukanmi, on Saturday said the N50,000 minimum wage being demanded by Nigerian workers may not be realised soon.

The former lawmaker noted that the labour unions have been asking for N50,000 minimum, which he said would be 250 per cent increment based on the current N18,000.

Farukanmi, Chairman, Elders Assembly of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state, told Nation: “It is evidently clear that some of the various levels of governments in existence presently owe their workers over 10 months salary arrears.

“It means that if some local and state governments are unable to meet up the N18,000 especially as sources of revenue generation are dwindling, the proposed N50,000 per month demanded by the labour force, if acceded can never be met by these present government”

The APC stalwart said the negotiation on the demands of the labour unions for over N50,000 as the national minimum wage has been on for many years without any resolution.

The elder statesman warned that new minimum wage of N50,000 would cause another economic recession in the country, as it would lead to general increase in the prices of all commodities and food stuff.

He said: “The labour Unions should ensure that this nation does not slip into recession again since every Nigerian is aware of the fact that Nigeria derives majority of its revenue from oil and gas, but with the large scale reduction in the prices of oil in the world market, the country’s revenue has reduced drastically.

“At a time when the economy should be strengthened with a stable naira as against encouraging further inflation, to embark on a stable naira as against encouraging further inflation, to embark on a 250 per cent wage increase will be enormously detrimental to the successful growth of the economy.”

We have prepared for him in 2019, thank God, PDP does the right thing this time by putting Atiku forward, I will not regret for voting Atiku, when Atiku comes, he will do the heedful. Buhari, pls, don't care about the workers, we will teach a lesson, stupid old fanatic, u don't even need to wait for workers to talk before you do d right thing.

Workers, who are the engine room of governance earn the lowest minimum wage in the world but our leaders earn the highest salaries in the world. Over 50m is budgeted for Pres. Buhari's hair cut per annum.

You're obviously a left leaning fantasist like Oshiomole was when he was in charge of the NLC.

As governor, the reality of the economic reality of limited resources and unlimited demands dawned sadly on him.

If you actually think any Nigerian state can pay even 50,000 as minimum wage talkless of 120,000, you are in a coma induced fantasist
