The fresh verification of former employees of the defunct Nigeria Airways Limited will commence on Monday, October 15, 2018, Business Post has confirmed.

The exercise will take place for five days and the pensioners across the country would be screened by a committee set up for the purpose ahead of payment of the recently released N22.68 billion by federal government, about 50 percent of the total severance package of the beneficiaries.

Business Post confirmed on Monday morning that names of the ex-workers of the nation’s former national carrier have been pasted with their respective days of verification.

Our correspondent gathered that the names were not alphabetically arranged as it used to be, but done randomly this time around.

On September 24, 2018, Minister of Finance, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, had announced that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the release N22.68 billion for the part-payment of the ex-workers being owed N45 billion.

Nigeria Airways started flight operations in August 1958, but was liquidated by former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s government in May 2003.

From the information gathered by our correspondent, the verification of the pensioners would be completed within a week.

After the exercise, the former Nigeria Airways workers would be expected to receive their payments from the federal government.

Late September 2018, Chairman of the Nigeria Airways Elders Forum, Mr Godwin Jibodu, had advised the pensioners at a meeting in Lagos to “prepare his or her documents for the verification.”

According to him, these documents should include “letter of appointment, letter of retirement and identity card.”
