10 Suspected Secret Cult Members Docked In Ogun by 16Ebiscoo: 4:12pm On Oct 17, 2018
Ten suspected secret cult members, who allegedly attacked themselves at a public place, were on Wednesday brought before an Ota Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

The accused are: Michael Fagbenro, 19; Sodiq Olaleye, 19; Michael Idowu, 18; Matanmi Tunde, 22; Salako Taiwo, 25; Lekan Abiona, 21; and Temitope Ekeade, 26.

Others are Babatunde Karimu, 24; Sodiq Adebanjo, 29; and Salako Kehinde, 21.

The accused are facing a two-count charge of membership of unlawful society and breach of peace.

According to Police Prosecutor Abdulkareem Mustapha, the accused committed the offences on Oct. 10 at about 8.30 p.m. at Oju-ore, Ota.

Mustapha alleged that the men all belong to “Aiye Confraternity”, a secret society.

He said the accused, who also assembled at Oju-Ore, conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by violently attacking themselves with dangerous weapons such as axe and cutlass.

The offences contravened Sections 5, 249 (b) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Chief Magistrate Mathew Akinyemi, in his ruling, granted each of the accused N200, 000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.

Akinyemi said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.

In addition, the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government as part of the bail conditions.

Further hearing in the case has been adjourned until Dec. 19. (NAN)
