The rt. Hon. Engr. Alphonsus Gerald Irona, a Chemical Engineer by training, was born to the family of Irona, Okorua of Umuoyata village, Oguta and Nwayiafor Irona (nne) Uneanya, on August 1st, 1966. As a young man of promise caught out for greatness, Hon. Irona Alphonsus Gerald ventured into politics and during this early period was elected a two term Councilor representing Oguta Ward A in 1996 and 1997 respectively.
