Kidnapped Journalists Released by Nobody: 7:24pm On Jul 18, 2010
The four Nigerian journalists and their driver, kidnapped last Sunday, have been released.

They were set free this morning, Sunday.

Reports say they are now with the Abia State Police Command in Umuahia for state officials to ascertain their state of health before they would be sent home to their families.

Information reaching Nigerianhome said their abductors simply took the journalists and their driver to some part of the state and 'dumped' them.

It is not clear yet if any ransom was paid.

But the abductors had been called upon to allow reasons to prevail with the last eight days that they had the men in their grips.

The captured and freed captives are: Lagos chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Wahab Oba, NUJ Zone G Secretary, Adolphus Okonkwo, Assistant Secretary, Sylva Okeke, Shola Oyeyipo, a Lagos-based journalist, and their driver, Azeez Abdulrauf.

what a shame ! so the kidnappers have ended up feeding and catering for their victims all in vain.
A very big and happy news that the journalists are free.

Good news to NUJ ! grin

@hatch#,
do u expect the federal govt to come out and announce how much they spent for the release of these journalists. if u can fall for such cheap story, u can fall for anything.
on the other hand, even if they claim not to have paid ramsome, do u know how much they have spent on the search alone?
the shame here goes to federal govt who have kept closed eyes on the menace of of kidnapping since until journalists are kidnapped.
do u know what it means holding a country hostage for this long?
