THE END OF A BEGINNING

The main reason Nigerians voted for president Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 was because they believed he could achieve the things that the past administration couldn’t.
Being a man of honesty and integrity as some would say, Nigerians believed him to be the Moses of the 21st century that would come and lead them to the promised land.

Nigerians were more than ready to vote him into power if he could only present a ‘NEPA’ bill instead of his ‘WAEC’ result as his credentials
And just like how the Israelites grew tired of Moses making promises and giving hope that no longer meant anything to them due to their impatience and no visible progress on the part Moses except clinging on the hope that it would get better, Just like how everything has its elastic limit, Nigerians have reached their own elastic limit and have also grown weary and tired of their own Moses giving hope that is no longer believed by anyone.

Although God punished the Israelites for their impatience and being ungrateful for His favour which is in contrast to the economic recession and hardship we went through but the point I want to make is this, Moses did not lead the Israelites into the promised land. In fact, God forbade him from entering the promised land as a result of his disobedience at Meribah and Joshua was eventually appointed to lead the Israelites into the promised land.

Is president Muhammadu Buhari the one to take Nigerians to the promised land?

The Buhari lead administration is focused on fighting corruption as its main agenda, a fight that has result to no one being convicted. Corruption fighting has been the main headlines of the news since May, 2015 but of what use is the fight against corruption if a so called government fails to perform its basic function which is the protection of LIVES and properties of its citizens?

Nigeria has become a country where the rule of law no longer prevail, no regards for the human life and the orders of the people who are in charge of interpreting the law in a sovereign state are being disobeyed.

Extrajudicial killings has become the order of the day. The average Nigerian has become accustomed to hearing about people being killed to the extent that he or she no longer feels anything when faced with such information and the sad truth is, the people carrying out this killings are the same people who are charged with the responsibility of protecting the sovereignty of both the state and its citizens.

The recent killings happening in this country is so unfortunate, ungodly and barbaric and the sad truth is knowing the fact that the perpetrators would go unpunished because they happen to be under a certain arm of government. I called this ‘impunity at its highest order’

One would wonder how such person who swore an oath to protect the lives and properties of the citizens of a state, go to bed every night and wake up every morning knowing that some of the citizens of the state he swore to protect are buried in sorrow as a result of having lost loved ones and nothing is being done to seek justice for the aggrieved.

This not the Nigeria we are praying for. This not the Nigeria we hope to reside in whereby a person will feel that wearing a uniform would give him or her the right to take the life of a fellow citizen who happens to be exercising his or her constitutional rights.

This is not the Nigeria we dreamed of and definitely not the Nigeria we want the younger generation to come live in.

Nigerians are tired of having people who are supposed to be stationed at territorial borders, parading the streets of the average man when there are people designed for such duty. This is not done anywhere but here.

An armed military personnel firing a live bullet at his fellow citizen for exercising his or her constitutional right is unfair and this is happening under the authority of a person who swore to protect the right to life of every citizen of Nigeria.

Nigerians have heard so many killings and most of the perpetrators have escaped the wrath of the law.
It’s high time for Nigerians to see the bigger picture. It’s high time for Nigerians to see the reality that would befall them if they fail to exercise their legal right when the time is right. It’s high time for Nigerians to see the dark end of the tunnel if things are left undone.

One of our presidential aspirant once said something that caught my attention.
He said and I quote “The problem of our country is that we have too many POLITICIANS but few LEADERS” and I don’t dispute the statement.

God bless the people of Nigeria and God bless bless our country.
