Benin – Over 20,000 members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the weekend defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in three government areas in Edo-South Senatorial District of Edo State.
The affected local government areas are Oredo, Ikpoba-Okha and Ovia North-East.
The people of Odighi and Odiguete communities in Ovia North-East local government area, while defecting to the PDP, said they were leaving the APC because the party could not protect them from the killing and raping of their women by Fulani herdsmen who have taken over their farmlands.
Dan Orbih, the state PDP chairman, while welcoming them to the party, appealed to the electorate to verify if their names appeared in the voters’ register recently released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enable them vote in the 2019 general elections. https://www.independent.ng/20000-apc-members-defect-to-pdp-in-edo/amp/
