Defending champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria will seek to get their campaign at the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations back on track when they face the Shepolopolo of Zambia in their second Group B game at the Cape Coast Stadium today (Wednesday), reports Completesportsnigeria.com.


The Super Falcons fell to a shocking 1-0 defeat to the Banyana Banyana of South Africa in their opening game on Sunday with substitute Chrestina Thembi Kgatlana grabbing the winning goal with a sublime finish five minutes from time.

Anything short of a win in this encounter may spell doom for the Super Falcons aspiration of progressing further in the competition.

Handler of the team, Thomas Dennerby will hope top stars like Asisat Oshoala, Desire Oparanozie and Francisca Ordega who failed to make much impact against the Banyana Banyana rise up to the occasion in this crucial game.

maybe it's because of the foreign coach that we have, I can't see the super falcons that I use to know

In my own opinion, I do not think the coach should be faulted completely, you ask me the reasons? See below:

✓ Most of our ladies are old and can't do much again. The likes of Ordega, Chikwelu, Oparanozie, and some others are now slow, rusty, and out of shape.

✓ Most of these girls are still living on past glory. Presently, they are far from being exceptional. From Oparanozie missing a sitter in the last match to Ordega doing less to contribute positively to get results.

✓ We need new young players to fill up the team. Our forward line needs competition. This way, the oldees would sit-up and do more.

✓ Another reason is inadequate training and preparations. I don't think they played any friendly match prior to this competition to get them fully prepared. The NFF neglected them and focused on Male Football.

I'm afraid we might crash out very early, the Zambians are red hot and would be a hard nut to crack. They whooped Equatorial Guinea 5 - 0 in their last encounter. I hope we get past them.

That being said, who noticed that Ordega played with a make-up in our last game? I'm baffled.

Complacency ke? Oga, team wey South Africa don humble has no business with being complacent.

Hate to sound corny, but the Super Falcons go take out their anger on Zambia. The She-polopolo wouldn't know what hit them.

Time will tell. But I pity the ladies though. All their preparations weren't up to two months with no friendlies.
