Orji Uzor Kalu was born in Aba, to Eunice Uzor Kalu (Odiokunamba) on April 21, 1960. His mother may have been raising him alone as there is no source that has certified who his father was, regardless, his mother was quite rich and influential on her own. Orji Uzor Kalu is notably one of the Nigerian billionaires that did not study abroad. He went to Christ the King Cathedral Secondary School in his hometown. After graduation, he attended Government College, Umuahia, and then studied at Barewa College, Zaria.

He, however, did not complete his education, so yes, Orji Uzor Kalu is one billionaire who is actually a university dropout. Here’s why he dropped out of school- He was more of partisan person and as such when the “Ali Must Go” riot erupted as a demonstration against the then education minister he actively participated and eventually got suspended in school as a result.

At that point, Orji Uzor Kalu realized that making money was more important than getting a degree, so he borrowed some money from his mom, and with #5000 in his pocket, he ventured to start his little business. He purchased palm oil somewhere in eastern Nigeria and sold it to the buyers in Northern Nigeria. It is important to note that he was only 19 years old when he became a businessman
