The Metropolitan Police have opened an investigation into allegations that black players in Chelsea’s youth system during the 1980s and 1990s were subjected to a “racist bullying culture” from members of staff.

MySportDab report a complaint was made in September 2018 with police understood to have interviewed two former players and an ex-member of staff.

A Metropolitan Police statement said: "Police received an allegation of non-recent racially aggravated assault in September 2018. Enquiriesare ongoing.

"There are no arrests. We do not confirm who we have spoken to."

This news comes at a tough time for Chelsea after they had to suspend four fans involved in the racial abuse of Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling.

Also, A number of Chelsea supporters were heard chanting an antisemitic song at a Europa League tie against Vidi in Budapest last week.

In a statement, Chelsea said: 'We take allegations of this nature extremely seriously and they will be fully investigated.

'We are absolutely determined to do the right thing, to assist the authorities and any investigations they may carry out, and to fully support those affected, which would include counselling for any former player that may need it."
