2019: Help, Plateau State Citizens Disenfranchised by WordMetrix(m): 6:59pm On Jan 02, 2019
As the build up to the 2019 Presidential/National Assembly polls draws neigh, we Plateau citizens are about to be disenfranchised. To cut the long story short, a vast majority of us haven't collected our PVCs, not because we don't want to but because of the grand plan by politicians in connivance with INEC to phase us out of our voting rights. First of all, those of us who registered in 2014 were told not to register again because our details were already captured in INEC's database. Some of us applied for relocation from our previous polling unit to a new one in November, 2017. We were promised that our PVCs will be out after six months, that is in May 2018. We went to INEC's office in the scheduled date only for us to be told that the cards being distributed then were for newly registered voters and that ours would be ready in November 2018. We again went in November but they asked us to wait till December. Now December has come and gone and they are now giving us another dateline (20th January, 2019). This is the first case scenario. The second category of those who might be disenfranchised are those who are being attacked by suspected Fulani herdsmen on daily basis. Not only are these people attacked, their houses are being razed and set ablaze after slaughtering them like goats. Those who manage to escape have their PVCs burnt alongside their valuables. The implications is that they too won't participate in the elections. Isn't this act of wickedness? Please we don't have a voice but we believe this platform can help us reach the government and INEC to kindly release our PVCs before it's too late!
