Universities this days will say 2.2 starting from cgpa 3.00. However, with your result, some might consider you. I had a 2.98 cgpa and I am presently doing a master's program in a federal University in the south west. So you need to go to the school of your choice, don't just sit down at home or on nairaland, you will only get a general answer from nairaland. Go to the school, meet the HOD of your proposed department. He will advise you. It is the department that makes recommendations to the pg school to admit student

Lies! Every school in Nigeria accepts 2.2 just that there may be variation. Like 2.75 and above while some will state 3.0 and above. Thanks

Your 2.2 is not the reason you have not gotten a job, I graduated with third class and I have worked 3 jobs, climbing up the ladder of better pay, working as a business development officer in the construction industry.

Getting a masters degree does not guarantee you a job if you don't know how to write a good CV and ace interviews. There are lots of master degree holders without jobs..

Most schools accept 2.2 but always give priorities to those that have their first degree in their school.
So, your best bet is applying in the school you graduated from.

OAU accepts 2.2. I'm a graduate of the school and I know classmates that went back for msc just because they found it difficult getting a job with a 2.2. They never did any pgd. Only sat for aptitude tests.

It means the information on their website is different. It says you must have a 2.1 to qualify for a Masters program

Seriously, his question is one of stupid questions I have seen this year. With this kind of question, I don't think he can get a job after he might have finished his master's degree.

All universities in Nigeria minimum requirements is 2.2 especially in core area.

YOUR CGPA MUST BE 2.5-3.49 BEFORE YOU CAN SAY YOU HAVE 2 2... BUT IF YOUR CGPA IS 2.2 AND YOU SAY YOU HAVE 2.2 YOU ARE TOTALLY WRONG.
WITH YOUR 2 2 WHICH IS SECOND CLASS LOWER UI WILL ACCEPT YOU.

You mis interpret his assertion. He said he has been on job hunting but didn't see any so he wants to apply to masters degree. Is anything wrong with that?

you are ill informed.. No federal university accepts just 2.1 for Masters.. I repeat all the federal universities in Njgeria accept minimum of 2.2 but what matters is the grade point..even the mighty UI accepts 2.2 for MSC.. It's only at Doctorate level that you must get a minimum of 3.5 CgPA

It depends on your department.

Some departments in UNILAG do not accept 2.2. Chemistry department for example do not accept 2.2 for academic masters except professional. I'm very sure of that.

Tell us the Department you graduated from, and from which university... federal, state or private?.

Which field of study are you planning to go for the Master Degree?

Is it academic masters or professional masters that you want to pursue?

Before application, go to the university and discuss with the HOD of concerned department. HODs are in charge of post graduate admissions, and you need to discuss with him or her for a go ahead to apply or not. Thank me later.

you need to ask your school to forward your transcript to the school you're applying for to run a Post graduate programme.

All do and should do as 2.2 is thd minimum required. And even 3rd class for professional masters degrde.

UNILAG accepts any kind of 2-2 so far you score high in the screening exam. In fact they don't need your transcript but only a photocopy of your certificate. A good number of 2-2 graduates scale through.

the only Unis insisting on 2.1 are Unilag and UI and maybe Covenant. Most federal Unis accept 3.0 GPA. Uni of Uyo Accepts 2.75 GPA. Most state universities except LASU & ESUT and even UNN accept normal 2.2 (second class lower).

That statement is a generalisation. You can always get a concession from your department.
