Fec Approves N21bn For 3 New Presidential Jets by rulz: 4:13am On Aug 12, 2010
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting yesterday approved the immediate release of the sum of N21 billion as contained in the 2010 Appropriation Act for the purchase of two aircraft for the presidential fleet. The deal also involved the supply of three presidential jets for the Nigerian government.

It will be recalled that the two of the presidential jets, including the one in which President Goodluck Jonathan travelled in to Kampala for the 15th African Union (AU) summit last month, developed mechanical fault, delaying his return to the country for one day.

Addressing State House Correspondents after the Council meeting, Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili, said the deal was the outcome of negotiation between Nigerian officials and two separate business concerns from France and the United States for the three aircraft.

Dassault Aviation of France is to supply two new Falcon 7x aircraft, while the Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation of USA is to supply the Gulfstream G550 for use by the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF). She said the purchase price of the two Falcon jets was put at $102 million while the single Gulfstream jet was to cost another $53 million, totaling $154 million for the three aircraft.
Akunyili pointed out that the committee set up for the negotiation of the acquisition of the aircraft was able to get a reduction of the sum of $2.9 million from the proposed price of the two Falcon jets and another reduction of $5.47 million from the offer price of the single Gulfstream jet.

The minister further explained that the first of the two Falcon jets would be delivered by the end of the fourth quarter of this year, while the second Falcon and the Gulfstream jets would be delivered by the end of the second quarter of next year.

“The sum of N21 billion has been provided in the 2010 Appropriation Act for the outright purchase of the two Falcon 7x aircraft and the one unit G550 to be delivered as agreed in the contract,” she disclosed.
According to Akunyili, the FEC, presided over by President Jonathan, after consideration, “approved the purchase of two Falcon 7x aircraft and one Gulfstream G550 aircraft in favour of Messrs Dassault Aviation and Messrs Gulfstream respectively at the cost of $154.529 million.”

no money for good healthcare hospitals

Saw this coming. I knew what happened in kampala was a ruse and a very cheap justification for what they were about to do.

When his predecessor bought the jet that recently 'broke down' in kapala, wasnt it tagged as "New"? Now they want to buy three 'New' ones abi?

God punish their mama!

There is the cost of buying the jets, but also the cost of maintaining the jets. Why do we always put ourselves in this sort of stupid situations.

What is wrong with the jets that were bought in 1999. Planes typically have 25-30yrs lifespan. what is with the waste. This GJ guy is just showing his lack of ideas.

Jonathan Goodluck is as dense as they come.  The man is bereft of ideas and is totally clueless.   Any smart politician will quickly analyse the situation and cut down the proposed purchase of the 3 aircraft to one.  He will then go on national tv to say that he is doing that in the interests of the common man and out of sensitivity to the plight of millions of poverty stricken  Nigerians who do not have access to basic services.  He will also do the same thing with the proposed 10 billion naira budget (or is it 17 billion) for Nigeria's 50th anniversary celebration.  He will say that the money should instead be directed to building schools and clinics in the Niger Delta and other parts of the country and for a training fund for  the downtrodden and dispossessed in Nigeria.  He will say that there is nothing to celebrate because we have not done ourselves any justice in 50 years but that now is the time for a new beginning.   Ladies and Gentlemen just think what that would do to his popularity and profile should  he decide to run in next years  elections, and even if he doesn't intend to run he would  have left an indelible mark in the heart of Nigerians as a man who loves and cares for the country.  Instead of this,  he just goes on and follows the same old senseless approach of the typical Nigerian leader.    To me it simply indicates that the Nigerian problem and its solution has nothing to do with education.  After all this is a man with a Phd.

JONATHAN is destined to fail from day 1, This is the man that the whole nation had been thinking would perform but how else would one tread on the path to failure other than this one.

This is a country where children are dying of hunger every minute, graduates roam the streets without jobs,
i remember when i served some years ago, we were not more than 500 that passed out from NYSC from the state but these days, you find NYSC members of over 10,000 serving in one batch.Where would they find work?govt is not thinking of these complexities, rather they are busy buying jets.

May God heap coal of fire upon them and their generations unborn, May they never live to enjoy the money.Oluwa o ni dayin si{May God not spare u}.ASE EDUMARE
