Nigeria ranks among the top 10 cheapest petrol selling countries in the world.

With a pump price of N145 ($0.41) per litre, Nigeria is the 6th cheapest place in the world to buy petrol.

Other countries among the cheapest places to buy petrol are Venezuela ($0.01), Sudan ($0.13), Iran ($0.29), Kuwait ($0.34), and Algeria ($0.35).

The average price of petrol around the world is $1.09 per litre (395 Naira), according to GlobalPetrolPrices.com, which publishes data on retail fuel prices around the world and tracking over 150 countries on a weekly basis.

All this preemptive propaganda towards intending fuel price increase will not work, comparing prices without comparing other economic factors!, it's not everyone that is a zombie,Apc/buhari should take note.

Why won't it be cheap when we have it already from God. It should be more cheaper if our government were sensible enough to fix a working refinery.

Why didn't you dig out this statistics when fuel was selling at N87?

How many oil producing nations sell more expensive than us?

How many of these countries run their homes and businesses on PMS?

Lemme give you an example: An average family man “in a fuel expensive country” uses only about 10 liters of petrol per month. Fuel is not scarce and thus not adultrated. 1 liter is equal to 1 liter! No stories, no queues. Also it is well regulated. There are staff buses to take him to work. He also can use air-conditioned public transport to work. He needs no generator to power his apartment, or run his business. If he needs to travel out of town, he takes a well equipped, well-maintained speed train or he flys! 10 litres is okay for weekend outings and rare necessities.

Now answer me: how many liters of fuel (on the average) does a family man need per month in Nigeria? undecided

Is Zon-B-ism the best work you can do in this world?

You asked how many oil producers sell PMS at higher rate than Nigeria. Well the 3 highest producers are US, Saudi Arabia and Russia. All three sell PMS at higher prices compared to Nigeria

whenever the prices of petrol is discussed people just get very emotional and sensitive without opening their minds to broader issues that we have been facing for years, it is true political parties have politicized and toy with us using us against the other on this matter, yes we can rant and curse apc this, pdp that, but anyone who has studied the trends of the petrol increase over the years will realize that all parties involved are to be blamed for close to 20 years (16pdp, 4 apc) nothing has been done to revamp our refineries except looting and corruption now it has dawned on us the failure to do so over the years. it is important to let everyone know that whether buhari, atiku, sowore etc that petrol prices will increase steadily over the next term.

subsidy will not be sustainable regardless of who wins election as no party would be willing to support our petrol prices with 1trillion annually, even the subsidy in the budget this year is only to cushion the effect cos of election period as it would be suicidal for the government of the day to increase petrol prices months before election. so for petrol prices to find its accurate market price, importers would calculate the cost of refining, importation, transport and landing cost into the new price after subsidy , even atiku has talked about removing subsidy thru peter obi during the debate, so whichever divide you are on petrol prices will increase. except all our refineries including dangote can by miracle start working optimally this year and even at that refineries will include the cost of refining, transport and all other government charges into their price along with recouping their investments on the structure they built, it is business after all and not charity.

In 1999, The PDP met an economy without the likes of MTN, Airtel, Glo, Etisalat, Dangote Cement, NIPP, Shoprite, privatized NEPA and many more. There were no agencies like ICPC, EFCC, to fight corruption. No regulatory agencies like NERC, NCC, PPPRA etc,. No due process or procurement Act, no UBE Act, and many other laws. No Communication satellites, and many other creations of the PDP.

It will be needful to compare the minimum wage, per capita earnings, and the quantity of oil produced and where they refined their products. Even as we compare their PMS price with ours in dollars.

I think Nigerians don't want to pay higher for fuel....and yes..a high fuel price does have knock on effects.

But subsidizing fuel too has knock on effects...NNPC is importing fuel at a loss, marketers sell fuel at artificially lowprices, and people are not rushing to build new refineries because no one wants to sell fuel at low prices. And then there is the corruption.

In 2010...GE wanted to build 3 new refineries. Signed an MOU. The refineries have not been built because under subsidy they won't have made a profit.

I understand why people don't want subsidy gone. And Lord knows it would chop my money well well.But...it is time we either cut subsidy...or we keep it, while we take loans to fund other sectors of the economy till oil goes above $140. (In our dreams).

But the question is whether the govt would even fund the other sectors , sadly

Is not cheap since you are using dollar. The price of petrol should be equal to the value of our currency not the other way-round, but our Naira is almost wot-less. The price of petrol going by our value should not exceed 50Naira per liter.

Shifting goal-post from where to where?

So you are now saying that low cost of living is a justifiable reason for low minimum wage?

Cost of living is low in Nigeria, because the government has failed to do their responsibilities. So people dig their own bore-holes for water, power their own homes with gen sets etc. Or do you expect the government to charge and tax individuals for light and water that they did not supply? Quality education at basic levels has been left out to the private sector, no good roads! So tell me, how exactly do you want cost of living to be high?

Do you know how much responsible governments put in to subsidize and mechanize agriculture so that there will be food available to all? Do you know what it takes to maintain the environment, keep it sane and green? Since our govt is not doing any of these, how do you expect cost of living to be high? For things people do themselves at minimal insubstaintial scale?

Note that the cost of electricity (in watthr) in Nigeria is not so different from what is obtainable in other countries. The difference is that it is not enough to go round, so people will still buy petrol to supplement!

Get some sense bro. Last response.
