NEWS2019 Presidency: Suspension hits Ohanaeze over AtikuPublished on January 31, 2019 By Emmanuel Uzodinma

A major crisis has hit the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization one week after the body endorsed Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

DAILY POST reports that the National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting of Ohanaeze held at its secretariat in Enugu, ended with a resolution suspending the Secretary-General of the body, Uche Okwukwu.

The Scribe had earlier told DAILY POST that the NEC suspended the President-General, Chief John Nnia Nwodo and appointed Prince Richard Ozobu as chairman of a disciplinary committee to probe him.

He stated that on the contrary, “President general, Nnia Nwodo is the one suspended by NEC for breaching sections of the Ohanaeze constitution by personally drafting and signing a communiqué”, adding that a nine member committee headed by Chief Richard Ozobu had been constituted to investigate the President general.

But a communique later made available to our correspondent showed that Okwukwu was suspended for issuing a counter statement against the decision of Imeobi Ohanaeze on Atiku’s endorsement.

A statement issued at the end of the NEC meeting held at the Secretariat of Ohanaeze, signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Uche Achi-Akpaga, stated that the secretary general was being punished for allegedly engaging in false representations of decisions of meetings of NEC and Imeobi Ohanaeze.

It said he had arrogated to himself the power to the organs of Ohanaeze by uttering positions purportedly taken by organs of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

“These deliberate actions were discussed today at the NEC and having taken place in the public domain and reported copiously in the mass media, the NEC, in an overwhelming majority decision after confronting Bar Okwukwu has resolved that he be suspended from office as Secretary general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and membership of all organs of Ohanaeze Nidgbo from Thursday, January 31, 2018”, the statement said

The statement gave the suspended secretary seven days to publicly retract and publish same in the mass media, failure of which would be referred to the disciplinary committee for further inquiries and appropriate action.

Okwukwu, who was said to have attended yesterday’s NEC meeting with over 30 policemen, said there was “nothing wrong in attending a meeting with policemen”, adding that, “even Nwodo has several policemen attached to him”.

It could be recalled that Okwukwu had addressed the press in Awka, Anambra state at the weekend, where he claimed that no meeting of Imeobi endorsed Atiku/Obi. He had stated that Imeobi would soon be convened to deliberate on the issue of endorsement by Ohanaeze, adding that the President General lacked power to convene meeting of the body.

HAPPY NEW MONTH, NIGERIANS...!

Welcome To The Month Of FailBuhari... The month we were waiting for.

Let's keep aside our tribal, religious and political differences for once and answer the call of patriotism.

Let's perform this national assignment of VOTING OUT BUHARI on the 16th at least for posterity sake...

By VOTING OUT BUHARI, you are voting out NEPOTISM... (Buhari has quietly turned Nigeria to his family business)- https://www.nairaland.com/4898295/opinion-proof-buhari-made-nigeria?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C5020878894.

By VOTING OUT BUHARI, you are voting out INCOMPETENCE... (It took Buhari a full six months to assemble his ministers, yet there's no economist in his cabinet - no wonder Nigerian economy has fallen from No. 1 fastest growing economy in Africa under GEJ to No. 41 right now under Buhari).

By VOTING OUT BUHARI, you are voting out POVERTY... (Nigeria is officially the world headquarter of Poverty under Buhari because our economy isn't growing, yet The dullard and his team are clueless. Even his highly learned VP believes that fighting poverty with unproductive schemes like Tradermoni and school feeding will grow our economy - an idea seen by economic experts as putting the cart before the horse. Our Economy cannot grow if we fight Poverty, but Poverty can reduce if we grow our economy).

By VOTING OUT BUHARI, you are voting out LIFELESSNESS... (It is no longer news that Buhari is unhealthy, not lively, and not physically and mentally fit to be a Local government chairman, let alone a president of a big country like Nigeria. He spent the first 2 and a half years of his tenure doing health tourism, only to stop when election came close. From the way he is stumbling and fumbling at campaign grounds, it is obvious he'll begin his health tourism again after this election).

By VOTING OUT BUHARI, you are Voting out a cabal of TWO POWERFUL MEN... (You don't know Buhari or what happens in Buhari's government more than his dear Wife. For his wife to tell you that two powerful men are controlling his government, you should know that a vote for buhari is a vote for those unknown powerful men).

There are many more reasons to VOTE OUT BUHARI... Add your own reason(s) below if you have the facts.

Once again, HAPPY NEW MONTH to you all!

News like this is the reason Igbos cannot make any headway in anything called politics in this country. Hausas and Yorubas know exactly what they are doing when it comes to politics.

Igbos can't even handle the Presidency of this country if given the chance.

Can't you all see how Igbos almost made Atiku drop Obi as running mate? Just Senate President oooo, we had 5 in one tenure.

Igbo enwe eze! Every Igbo is king in his house.

Igbo people are their own problem

Before you quote me, I am 100% Igbo

Ibos sha! If Nigeria divides today, two regions that will find it hard to progress in anoda hundred years will be the south and east. The south will be fighting emselves cos of oil and the east cos of leadership. The north will progress fast followed by the west. Ibos, very divided group of pple.

Unprofessional journalism. The report not well composed. Boring and confusing . All I know is Nigeria must move forward. We need people with good vision and right mindset. Someone that won't rule the country based on nepotism tribalism ethnicity and religious beliefs. Nigeria will be great again.
