Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Southern Kaduna people said they have resolved not to support any political party that exploits and whip up ethnic and religious sentiment to divide the people of the state.
A communique issued at the end of a one-day Southern Kaduna Political Summit Group at Kafanchan and jointly signed by its convener and secretary, Barr. Mark Jacob and Simon Reef Musa, said the Southern Kaduna people would only support any party that demonstrates a commitment for the realization of the full potentials of the agricultural prospects through the provision of financial status to the teeming farmers.
The communique said, “The Summit particularly resolves that Southern Kaduna people will never support a party that has exploited and whip up ethnic and religious fault lines to further divide the people of Kaduna state.
“The Summit further declares its commitment to serve as an effective platform for assessing the scorecard of elected representatives based on the above stated key interests as agreed by participants.
“The Southern Kaduna people are united in supporting any party that demonstrate a commitment for the realisation of the full potentials of our agricultural prospects through provision of financial support and attracting investment on ginger, among other viable sectors, for improving the financial status of our teeming farmers.
“The commitment by any political party to provide loans and other empowerment schemes for farmers to improve on their crop-yielding ventures in ginger, Irish potatoes, among others, and empowerment of our rural populace should serve as fulcrum of our support.”
“The summit deplores the unprecedented suffering unleashed on Southern Kaduna under the APC-led government in the state, as shown in the absence of infrastructural development, killings and other forms of insecurity that have ravaged the people,” the communique explained.
The meeting called on the people of the area to rise up and do the needful, adding, “The meeting resolved on the need for the Southern Kaduna people to unite in order to end the siege and avoid their extermination.”
The participants said, “Besides resolving to work together for the protection of core interests/values of Southern Kaduna across party affiliations, the summit laments the poor quality of political representations by elected representatives, and declares that henceforth, the silence of parliamentarians, both at the national and state levels, should no longer be condoned and or tolerated. In this wise, the meeting calls on the electorate to either ‘reward’ or ‘punish’ elected representatives in the forthcoming polls on the basis of their performances.
“The meeting agrees that never again will elected representatives go unassessed on the basis of templates detailing key interests of our people.”

General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has defeated the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan in the Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo’s home state, Kaduna with 1.127,760 to 484,085 votes.
The opposition APC won in 14 of the 23 local government areas of the state, leaving the ruling party with nine local governments.
Comrade Shehu Sani of APC won the Kaduna Central Senatorial seat after defeating Senator Mohammed Mukhtar Aruwa of the PDP with 468,964 to 168, 241.
Similarly, APC’s Suleiman Hunkuyi defeated the incumbent Senator and former Kaduna State Governor, Ahmed Makarfi to clinch the Northern senatorial seat with 447,917 to 136,197m
However, Danjuma Laah of the PDP defeated APC’s Ishaku Shekarau to emerge winner of the southern Kaduna senatorial seat with 259,239 to 119,022.
