Chairman of Friends of Democracy Group for Jonathan 2011, Mohammed Abba Aji, yesterday, said President Goodluck Jonathan will declare his intentions to run for the presidency in 2011 polls at the end of Ramadan.

Mr Abba Aji spoke on Tuesday in Abuja when the group inaugurated their state offices for the 36 states of the federation in Sheraton hotel. “President Goodluck Jonathan will certainly run and he’s going to declare after Ramadan,” he said. “The president is fasting along with us. So because of this he is holding on and as soon as Ramadan is over, he will declare for the presidency.” Mr Abba Aji, who is the Special Adviser on National Assembly matters to the president, added that a convenient date for the Mr Jonathan’s declaration will be announced after Ramadan. “The president will run, it is the desire of all politicians to aspire to the highest level and he is now the closest person to that seat because he’s already sitting on it,” he said. “So he is the closest person to the presidency in 2011; nobody is closer to it than Jonathan because he’s already on the 2011 seat. He is going to run and no doubt about this.” Ramadan will end in early September.

Running with Sambo

The group, which has membership drawn from the political elite, dispelled rumours that the president would adopt another person, other than his current vice, as running mate. “There is no doubt that he is running with the Vice President Namadi Sambo,” said Mr Abba Aji. “Don’t believe the report that he is considering dropping his vice, don’t believe them.” He said that most of the state governors supported the group, adding that they are not threatened by the refusal of some few governors to join their ship. “So we have no fears at all because our governors will in due course, support our course,” he said. “Many of them have expressed their support. On the last count we have the majority, over two-thirds of the governors are already with us and not that the rest are not with us, the rest are getting ready to declare.” he said.

Members of the group, who were present at the inauguration, includes former deputy senate president, Ibrahim Mantu; federal lawmakers - Ita Enang, Ufot Ekate, Ataidoko Ali, Osita Izunaso, Abdulahi Gumez; and former deputy governor of Edo State, Lucky Mazue. “Jonathan is contesting the next election because it is now his entitlement to seek re-election, then he automatically takes it to the south,” said Mr Abba Aji. “After his four years, then it comes back to the north and then zoning goes again.”

See how he embarrassed the nation with the Super Eagles ban and have to make a quick u-turn only after a few days. Whats really his plan for the nation? We should look beyond ethnicity and ask ourselves the real question: has he demonstrated clear understanding of the need of the Nigerian nation? What are his economic plans for the country. Even Niger Delta are getting restless with the apparent lack of direction of this Goodluck dude.

me too has even lost my confidence in him, d man is unsure of himself that he could not even take decision on ordinary football issue.
