Nigeria Africa’s most renowned nation goes to the pools to decide her next leader tomorrow. The elections earlier scheduled for February 16 was unfortunately and spontaneously called off four hours to its time of commencement. Nigeria who had experienced many years of military rule had twitched to Democracy shortly after the demise of Gen Sani Abacha. Gen. Abacha’s death saw Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar hold power for a mere 11 months upon which he swiftly conducted the elections that saw Chief Olusegun Obasanjo return through the ballot many years after his rule as a military man as PDPand Obasanjo defeated ANPP’s candidate Chief Olu Falae.

The 20 years of democracy so far is the longest the country has enjoyed and one of the longest by an African nation practicing a two-tenure ruling system.

The last election was seen as a danger zone as world powers had predicted that the nation could divide once and for all but this was thwarted when President Jonathan humbly accepted defeat to General Buhari in March 28 2015 elections. Buhari had won after three previous unsuccessful attempts.

President Buhari’s coming was well received by many after his party ( APC ) boasted of a dramatic turnaround of the Nation’s fortunes but were met with a rather disappointing performances which saw the nation sink further and poverty and hunger rise beyond expectations. Nigeria went downhill as the dollar became 365 Naira and the Uk Pounds over 500 Naira.

President Buhari whose coming was ensured due to his stance of fighting corruption achieved very little or no progress as his own colleagues and family
