So what's your point?
Don't bring tribalism here
Nigeria was much more united then than now.
As a curious kid then, I remember seeing people rigging, thumbprinting and stuffing ballot box in 1983. But not on the scale of 2015 and 2019.

Tribe plays a much bigger role now.

The worst thing that happened to Nigeria after Biafra war was coup plot to remove Shagari. It destroyed our best chance to grow before end of cold war. We lost relevance to the West (their investment, companies dried up) once cold War ended. People who understand world politics will understand.

Even South West people still complain that Jonathan gave key cabinet positions to Igbo people.

We shouid not sugarcoat anything. We are now a very religiously and ethically polarised nation. Living in Abuja often blinds many Southerners to reality.

thank you! Buhari started by putting his cronies in strategic position in INEC and then taking control of all the security personnel, by changing police commissioners. and you don't even want to talk about all the money that was wasted in this election. during the Obasanjo administration, they were carrying money in Ghana must go bag but this time around they were carrying money in bullion vans shocked

I was born in the north, what you said is not mostly the reason why Atiku fail.
Buhari is seen as a true muslim in the north who support jihadism and sharia. All the senior Imam back Buhari and Almajiris take orders from them, this almajiris are the real voters in the north. Atiku is seen as friend of infidels and have no control over the almajiris. They also trust Buhari to hand over to a northener in 2023 using PDP or APC.

Atiku have little control in the north because he is a liberal man, while Buhari is seen as a Islamic supreme leader because over the years Buhari is a trusted Islamic adherent who provide cover for Islamic hard liners.

Born in the North my foot!...may God punish you for the lies you are peddling here... people like you should be arrested and put behind bars for spreading hate speeches and lies...you voted for the candidate of your choice and the Northerners voted for the candidate of their choice, what's the big deal about that?... please find another excuse the trashing you Athiefkulooter received because this one you provided is lame...Lest ai forget,#IAMNORTH

Its a wrong to compare the politics of 80s to '19

Different people
Different motives
Different ideologies

That it worked then is not sufficient enough a proof it would work nw.

Stillthebest:
Atiku lost just for two reasons;

1. He had been been nurturing the ambition to become the president since 1992 which he contested with MKO Abiola under SDP but lost in the pry, thus,MKO cliched the ticket. Such a man being a wealthy man, ought to have cleared a perfect ground in the North for his future. People's hands are not hard to employ but you must first win their hearts. What has he done voluntarily in the North to make the Hausas see him as a light? Naturally, Hausas hate liars and thieves. Atiku is painted as both. He needed to have worked on that in the North over time till the time he's was the Vice President to the post VP? How many mosques did he build in the North? How many schools did he build? How many people did he try to feed? You don't match the integrity of Buhari whom the fulanis see as their Aminu Kano, but you need another solid political tactics. I don't believe he failed to know that North is a decider of winning in the Nigeria national electoral spectrum today. What has been his relationship between him and the Northern deciders? Forget the babangidas and Danjumas. What's is his relationship with the Kano Emir. Politics is not hard but he makes it look harder. You can't act like a big Man in Nigeria Politics and achieve much(evident In his loss in his polling unit). How many men does Atiku have in the inner caucus of the Govt that can help penetrate the fabrics? Winning an incumbent that came from the North is a hard nut to crack.

2. He made a wrong choice of campaign director who lost his own return ticket to the senate due to lack of concentration on the grassroots(Saraki has his own other issues that have developed over time and failed to painstakingly attend to). However, this culminated in their failure to get a proper think tanks that would work out modalities to curtail rigging or its excesses in the North. To my observations so far, these are the major causative factors for his gross loss.

Meanwhile, on another serious note, for how long would the North determine the fates of the so called "liberated and exposed" in Nigeria through polls? This is a looming danger for the future. North now see themselves as "Nigeria" in quote.

Well written. If the South wants power in 2023 based on the written pact of 8 years between South and North then both parties APC and PDP must field Southerners. The north will vote for who they like as VPs. I see APC field EL Rufai/Ribadu as the VP while PDP fielding Kwankwaso/Tambuwal

Number 2 is the main reason he lost..

Selling of nnpc doesn't even matter down here.

He won, they rig him out.

I don't think he won. I think he lost to better politicians and I don't see him having this opportunity again.

This article doesnt make much sense. Northerners saw Buhari as a defender of Islam and voted for him. SS/SE and part of SW saw Atiku/Obi as business oriented anti poverty agents and voted for them not because he wanted to sell the loo making NNPC.
Igbos voted for Atiku/Obi because the dread poverty which is seen as will of Allah in the North.

Many Hausa beggars in Lagos spent so much to travel to go and cast their votes for Sai Baba even though he has not told them how he will take them out of poverty; only to return to the streets to beg for sustenance from Igbos, Yorubas, Ibibios, Ijaws etc who wanted to elevate themselves out of economic downturn by voting Atiku/Obi

I don't think that it was restructuring.
Atiku was not vocal about that
He wasn't vocal about it, but Hausa-Fulani know he's cosmopolitan, loves other ethnic groups like his own, hence, will not key into the Hausa-Fulani's agenda of born to rule. Besides, so many of them wanted to vote for him, but were forced to vote for Buhari or else they would be killed. Many Northerners didn't want Buhari. They were forced against their wish. Buhari is a virus. Also, so many Igbos and Yorubas were disenfranchised in Lagos. Results were inflated in favour of Buhari, while Atiku's votes were reduced. Don't blame the man. He won, but a devilish man is at the helm of affairs. So, he manipulated the result. When the wicked rules, the people cry and languish in pain, but when the righteous is in authority, the people rejoice. We should all be prayerful that the next 4 years will be fruitful. All i know is that the wicked can never go unpunished.

It was not because he said he would sell NNPC that he was not voted for. He was actually voted for by so many educated men and women because of that. NNPC is a conduit pipe of corruption. So, he meant well by saying that.

As for privatisation of NITEL, some people lost their jobs, but it was a good thing that happened to Nigerians, cos it created jobs for so many Nigerians, deregulated the telecom sector. Today, even a labourer can afford a phone.

Lol how could you not know he wasn't very popular. Only silly people from south were saying he was going to kill in Kano. I expected him win a few NC states like plateau. Fact is he has the curuption cloud over his head. The fault is with the party for not knowing this. Thats why they should do open primaries to select candidates instead of they're elitist backroom selections.

Lol he was very milquetoast on herdsmen issue. He was for cattle colonies aswell. Then he didnt take a hard line stance on getting them in order or having a solution to "foreign" herdsmen violence. He didnt have much to offer NC in reality.

He might have but might have cost him votes in the North if he revealed. Politicians are always tactly so as not to anger the electorate. His plan to sell NNPC might have cost him votes among state oil workers who would have been petrified of loosing underserved jobs

First of all, I want to congratulate President Buhari for his reelection ,
I didn't vote for him but at the end of the day, he won
That's one of the beauties of democracy!
Going through the results of the presidential election from the north, I can't help but admit that I am disappointed at the PDP presidential candidate Alhaji atiku abubakar.
1. Knowing fully well that there is a corruption tag hanging around you, why shouting "you will sell NNPC up and down "
What's the essence of the noise?
And about selling it, to whom?
Likely himself through a proxy and his friends,
That NNPC brouhaha depopularise him.
He should learn how to keep his mouth shut most times.
Does he know how many people lost their jobs when Nitel was sold,
Many Nigerians especially northerners were not comfortable with that selling of NNPC thing.
.
2. He didn't prepare well against rigging and malpractice.
This is Nigeria where elections comes with drama, his presidential campaign organization should have put in mechanism in place to counter that.
And BTW who was the campaign director?
Oh Saraki, who was more focused on retaining his senatorial seat to no avail,
Their whole planning was poor!
.
3. Atiku needs to ask himself why he was unpopular in the north?
I never knew that he was this unpopular,
Losing your polling unit to buhari is a big embarrassment please,
Let's be frank, Buhari smashed the northern votes,
We thought atiku will divide the northern votes, but what we saw was disheartening.
Look at south where his vice president aspirant, Peter Obinna came from, PDP won the highest number of votes in the south,
That means that Peter Obi delivered.
To my suprise, the PDP votes from South west was very impressive
What is Atiku excuse for the poor performance of PDP in the north from where he is from?

.
4. Dear Atiku,
I tried for you,
Supported you,
Voted for you
But hope you are aware, that the buhari you can't defeat, you joined hands in pushing him to aso rock in 2015?
When you were in APC, you left APC, ran back to PDP that you helped in removing from power and now you can't defeat APC and buhari.
Maybe it is karma fighting back!
Who knows!

.
Dear Atiku Abubakar
Accept the defeat in good faith
No need of going to court, it will be subjecting yourself to more ridicule.
You are still a billionaire.
Try again in 2023
But certainly NOT in PDP.
Thank you.

It was his campaign team. They didn’t do a thorough study and preparation on what Nigerians really wanted. Jobs jobs isn’t everything. How about power, housing, transport and other sectors Apc has failed to perform.

Apc/buhari shud be the easiest thing to beat if u know ur onions cos they were failures in many areas obvious for Nigerians to see and buy Ur idea.

NNPC Privatization idea was bad looking at his track record and poorly explained to convince people. Nobody really was comfortable with it tho a bold idea which might actually be good.
