The United Kingdom (UK) says Nigerians can have confidence in the outcome of the presidential election that held on Saturday.

President Muhammadu Buhari, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), won the election with Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) coming second.

Harriett Baldwin, UK’s minister of state for Africa, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the result declared was consistent with the civil society parallel vote tabulation process.

“I offer my congratulations to President Buhari on securing a second term as the Nigerian President,” she said in the statement.

“The UK is a long-standing friend and partner of Nigeria and the Nigerian people, and a stable and prosperous Nigeria benefits Africa and the world.

“The Nigerian people have demonstrated resilience and a commitment to democracy. The result declared by the Nigerian election commission is consistent with the result obtained through the civil society Parallel Vote Tabulation process. Along with our international partners, the UK believes the Nigerian people can have confidence in the result.”

Atiku had rejected the result describing the election as the worst in the history of Nigeria. Following the announcement on Wednesday, he said the election witnessed an implementation of grant theft of the people’s will.

Reacting, however, Baldwin urged the opposition to challenge the result in a peaceful manner.

“We also recognise that independent Nigerian voices have expressed concerns about the conduct of the electoral process, in particular logistics and results collation, and reports of intimidation of election officials,” she said.

“We urge any party or individual who wishes to challenge the process to do so peacefully and through the appropriate legal channel and we encourage Nigerian authorities to examine all allegations of wrongdoing carefully, and take the necessary action against individuals found responsible.

“My thoughts are also with the families and friends of those who lost their lives in election-related violence. No one should die in the exercise of their democratic rights. We will continue to support Nigeria and its civil society in drawing lessons from these elections and strengthening its democracy.”

The result will be challenged as usual. Time for judiciary to scoop from Atiku. No opposition has ever won the tribunal at the presidential level. Atiku should just stay calm and use his popularity to groom and sponsor young vibrant future leaders. He should forget being a president.

Gluttonous hyenas from the UK, we all know their interest in Nigeria's resources?

Why have the Americans not congratulated the lifeless dullard like Hussein Obama did in 2015?

Sycophantic thieves!

Atiku don buy market ooo, all people he was relying on, shouting at, to save him are now against him, may be he can go to Cameroonian government to help him. They played seriously into APC hand and they were fully humiliated. Whoever drafted their strategies is a failure. For him to even loose in his polling unit and ward is a huge disgrace. so sorry for him, the pains will be too much.
APC never make much noise , but their foot armies were doing door to door campaign in remote areas in the core north.
All those monikers like atinumeansthis atiku4president, atiku this and that have suddenly disappeared, have said it 100 times, all those likes and shares put together from them are not even up to 1 LG results. The thing is that he was rejected in core north either rigged or no rigged. No matter how, loosing in your ward and local government to your opposition is a bad market.

hhahaha the nightmare continues for Atiku. cheesy

My people will say "when a dog wants to die it stops hearing the call of its owner". Now that everyone is telling Atiku the truth, he doesn't want to listen, soon he will be reduced to political nothingness. Instead of him to sit back and try to regroup politically and reestablish himself as a political force, he is busy diluting what's left of the support he currently has.

Let him continue in the path he has chosen, soon he will find out that he is walking alone. He thinks the likes of FFK, Reno and Fayose that are currently drumming war songs are ready to fight when it comes to it. He will learn the truth the hard way. Then he will retire to his house like IBB.
Now he can't win his polling unit when the dust settles he won't be able to win even his compound.
