If you mean "gigantic" in the true sense of the word and not an exaggerated sense then your budget should be gigantic enough for a dedicated server.

With the kinda forum you have in mind, you should expect huge amount of I/O activities which will translate to a huge amount of resources being used.

It's per month. Dedicated servers are expensive. $70 even looks kinda cheap. A typical dedicated server goes for about $100. You may still start out with a shared hosting time. Then as your website grows and the need of more resources arises, then you can get a VPS or DEDI server.

Well i will give you advice based on experience.
I started my forum with 4 dollars a month. Shared

Then 10  Dollars - Shared
Then 24 Dollars, - Cheap VPS
Then 29 Dollars - Another Cheap VPS.

Then 49USD - Better VPS

Then 70 USD - Bigger VPS

Then at - 199.90 USD/month Currently. Dedicated Box.


So you see my friend, There is nothing like a gigantic forum.
You start from one member [you] to two, then three and move up the ranks.

I suggest you start with a Nigerian Host. I suggest You use Trudigits, from Dual Core.
He knows about servers very well because i have been in Server issues with him for long.

When its time to upgrade, they will let you know.

InternetVisa has been around for approximately two years. We currently don't have any client using PHPBB cos most people prefer SMF. Our server is very fast as we run on Litespeed which is way faster than Apache web server.

I think i agree with you. Forum sure requires time as everything does not just depend on you but also on potential users. I think i
ll also advice you to get a basic website and then optimize it. By the time you start having regular flow of visitors you can now change the site to a forum or just creat a sub-domain or directory for the forum. It still all depends on your reason for wanting to strat a forum.

Afam, 5900/Year is a pretty small amount for a good server package, Its almost like what i pay every 6 days.
Therefore if you can host and maintain active forum for that amount, Then i will move my forum to you ASAP.
Forums consume more server resources than regular websites.
That is the reason why i put the prize structure down for the OP.
I am not asking him to use US based hosts, I am telling him how it is going to work.
There is no way around that. I have never discussed anything about server with you, but i dont doubt what you can do.
If he goes for that 5900 and his forum becomes active in three months, He will have to upgrade to a bigger package which could be anything.
Otherwise, his forum will disturb the performances of the other websites hosted on the same server.
