Police Barricade Anti-tinubu Rally In Lagos by themomentng: 2:12pm On Feb 28, 2019 |
Policemen have invaded Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, where some political activists are holding a rally ahead of the March 9 governorship election. Under the Orange Movement, the group converged on Oramiyan Hall in the hotel to strategise on how to stop Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), from having his way in the election. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, candidate of the APC in the election, has the backing of Tinubu. Some critics of the APC leader and members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have alleged that a win for Sanwo-Olu translates into a fifth term for Tinubu, who served as governor between 1999 and 2007, and influenced the emergence of Babatunde Fashola, who governed the state between 2007 and 2015. Tinubu also played a key role in the emergence of Akinwunmi Ambode, incumbent governor of Lagos. The Orange Movement had adopted “O to Ge”, meaning “Enough is Enough”, a crusade which was used to uproot the political structure of Senate President Bukola Saraki in Kwara state. A member of the movement told TheCable on Thursday that the police said the group did not seek permission from the appropriate quarters before organising the rally. The policemen are mounting strategic positions in and outside of the hotel.

Tinubu is just a private citizen. He is neither the Governor nor a contestant. What exactly do these protesters want? 1) That Tinubu should support the PDP candidate? 2) That Tinubu should not support his party's Candidate? 3) That Tinubu should not participate in the politics of Lagos State? 1 Like |

PDP miscreants lack originality. All they know is copy-copy. I hope they collected something reasonable from Saraki? Kwara must be free. |

Then what's the essence of their protests? It's better they join hands with the PDP and start campaigning for Jimi Agbaje to win, anything else is a waste of time and energy. The constitutional rights of Tinubu to join any political party or support a particular candidate can NOT be nullified by any protest. Xisnin: |

oyatz:Nigeria constitution gurantees freedom of assembly and protest. It is not your business to tell people when it is okay to protest or not. |

You don't seems to get my points. I am not against the protest per see but the aims of the protest. Anybody can protest but the purpose of the protests will be defeated if they don't consider the realities on ground. The reality is to join hands with the major opposition party to defeat Tinubu's party, mere protests can't achieve anything. The Government can't say Tinubu should not participate in politics because somepeople are protesting. Xisnin: |

oyatz: Now I get your point. The protesters can't stop Tinubu from participating in politics because he has a right to. But their message is directed at Lagosians, not Tinubu. For all we know, some of the protesters might already be part of the opposition party. |
