The Nigerian army have paraded about eleven members of the National Youth Service Corps.

National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members numbering eleven have been paraded in Rivers state for allegedly committing various electoral offenses during last weekend’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

They were paraded on Friday by officers of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.

The corps members were said to have been arrested in a hotel in Gokana Local Government Area of the State filling result sheets in favour of a political party during the elections.

Aminu Illiyasu, the spokesman of the Division while parading the suspects at the 6 Division Headquarters, said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were moved from the polling units to a hotel to rig the elections in favour of a political party.

According to him, he said items recovered from the hotel include 34 ballot boxes loaded with ballot papers, three card readers, 10 bags containing electoral materials and Toyota Hiace bus with registration Number Lagos EQ171KRD.

Mr. Ewitimi Jimicoal, a corp member who spoke on behalf of other colleagues, told reporters that they were whisked away under gun point by some men and were forced to fill result sheets by the political thugs.

“On Saturday after the Presidential and National Assembly elections, we heard sporadic gunshots at the polling units and immediately, some boys and some community men forced us into a bus and drove us to an unknown location.

“Right there at the place, the boys forced us to forge the result in favour of a political party at gunpoint and out of fear we did so, and while we were still surrounded with guns, the army came and arrested us,” he said.

Also, paraded was a middle aged man, Gogo Meshach, and 42 others, including officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who were arrested with 142 Permanent Voters Card (PVC), and 42 pages of voters list.

The suspects have been handed over to the State Police Command for further investigations and possible prosecution.

So the gullible always fall prey... What Happened to the mastermind of the crime... Why so quick to parade those who have no stake in the elections.

We heard that a certain Governor locked up an INEC official and asked him to declare him winner, till today they have not arrested or paraded him, not even a statement from the authorities.

Meanwhile, what happened to our North Brothers who are busy thumb printing?

Nigeria still have a long way to go.

I don't understand, why are they still with the military? They are not in the military and as such should be handed over to the police for prosecution ASAP

Is this the beginning of a new dawn in Nigerian political discourse? Where candidates can differ on issues yet be civil about it, this ad does show the maturity of the leading candidates in Nasarawa State. Check it out and let's hear your opinion;

You mean the same Rivers state that men like Honorable Asita hijacked ballot papers meant for other communities in ward 4 Ahoada west, with the aid of the Nigerian army.

Did the state provide the Corp members with security? What did you people now expect them to do when some people came to whisked them away at gunpoint? They should fight gun wielding men with bare hands? Abeg let the corpers go joor

The army is part of the security architecture of any country, at election periods and other times. More so, in a country like Nigeria with less than 400k police for 180 million population. It appears from reports that Nigerian soldiers have conducted themselves fairly well so far in these elections. I saw the kogi state-born activist Natasha Akpoti on TV praising the army on their impartiality during last week's election - she was a senatorial candidate on sdp platform. Rivers is the centre of thuggery and state-sponsored violence coordinated by Wike. Only the army can effectively handle the chaos in Rivers.
