People’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) elders in Rivers State have come hard on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing it of working with extraneous forces to shift the date of collation of results of the March 9 governorship election to April 2.

They warned that doing so is tantamount to deliberately precipitating constitutional crisis and setting the state on fire.

INEC had earlier set March 20 (yesterday) date for the commencement of collation of results for the governorship/state assembly election which it suspended as a result controversy over the alleged infamous role played by security agencies at collation centres.

The Rivers State African Action Congress (AAC/APC) alliance, led by the Minister of Transport, Chibuike Amaechi approached an Abuja High Court presided over by Justice Inyang Ekpo for an exparte order restraining INEC from going ahead with the collation and announcement of results of the election. The judge yesterday struck out the motion.

INEC said it had already collated the results of 19 local government areas and would conclude the collation of remaining councils as soon as possible.

However, Speaking with Daily Sun, the elders which include former governor of the state, Celestine Omehia, former minister, George Sekibo, Chairman of the stats chapter of PDP, Felix Obua and Sergeant Awuse said there was a reliable information that the commission has shifted the collation date to April 2.

They accused INEC of dancing to the tune of extraneous forces and working to set the state on fire.

The elders described as dishonourable and shameful the decision of the commission to recant from its earlier promise to start the collation of the results of the election on March 20 (yesterday).

“What INEC wants to do is to precipitate crisis in Rivers. It is now clear that it has bowed to extraneous forces,” Obuah told Daily Sun.

Contacted, INEC ‘s National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye neither denied nor confirmed the allegation of the elders. He told Daily Sun that the commission will speak on the matter and other issues today.

“I have nothing to say on this at the moment, INEC will speak on it and other issues tomorrow (today).

But warning that INEC was treading on a dangerous ground with the planned shift in the date of the collation of results, Omehia, Sergeant Awuse, Obuah and Sekibo said INEC’s move has the potential of setting it against the people of the state.

INEC should not be seen as partisan otherwise the credibility of it as an independent institution could be queried.

They should simply do the RIGHT thing.

The only and solely only way to remove Wike as the governor of Rivers State is through military coup. Democratically it is not possible. Amaechi knows this.
The claim that Wike used military in 2015 to win election is not correct. Everyone remembered it was Amaechi who claimed that parade had changed gear immediately after the presidential election and it was so. Even at that APC went to court to stop military interference.
Wike may not be the best person but so far as his opponent is Amaechi or believed to be sponsored/supported by Amaechi Rivers people will always vote for him(Wike). If Wike rigged in 2015, it would have been very possible to butt him out with almost all the paraphernalia, arsenal and apparatchik of the federal government deployed against him. Amaechi knows the disdain Rivers people nurse for him. Even his attempt to pitch the riverine people against the upland people is not working.
When did Amaechi start to love the Ijaws? If he didnt like the Ijaws at the level of presidency will it not amount to mockery to support them at the gubernatorial level? I know someone close to him will come across this, a message should be sent to him that the voice of the people is the voice of God.

I don't doubt this allegations one bit...There's a conspiracy against Rivers state, the state government however feisty he's being running up to the elections had repeated cried out loud about plots to undermine the Rivers state elections.

How does one begin to explain that of all the states of the federation Rivers is the only state that was excluded from the Atiku INEC server reveal even when the card readers were programmed to transmit accreditation automatically and within a particular time frame. As at 25th of February no entry was made for the state for an election that held on the 23rd.

We are watching, I just INEC does not plunge that state into chaos.

Sun Newspapers don join the unconfirmed news wagon?
1. The Judge's name is Inyang Ekwo and not Ekpo.
2. The Judge did not struck out the motion but rather asked them to put INEC on notice and adjourned the matter to March 25, 2019 for hearing.
We can save this country a lot of these baseless news when our Journalists does their work properly without considering the size of the brown envelope they will get.

Which result do they want inec to announce?
The election where 80% of the returning officers are pdp members?
The same election that the governor invaded the obio/akpor collation center and shot some army personel and carted away collation materials and abducted some persons? All these issues are yet to be attended to and inec putting up a deaf ear to.
You still want them to announce a result where almost all the electoral officers including the REC were bribed with audio and video to prove such. I can see elders indeed. What i see are clowns in elders.

Though Abiye Sekibo and Celestine Omehia aren't fit to be called elders of Rivers state, I still align with their position.

INEC should conclude the damn process so we can have peace in our state.

All those elders listed are card carrying members of the PDP. Sekibo a PDP senator, Omehia a former PDP governor and Obua the current PDP chairman of Rivers State. Bloggers are truly among Nigeria's greatest threats.

What people that are saying Wike used Military in 2015 don't understand is this....

In 2015, although Ameachi the then governor had decamped to APC, he didn't decamp with the state. It was himself and some of his cohorts. Now the entire Rivers state voted for GEJ(PDP) but he lost, with that anger of GEJ losing I bet u that 95% of Rivers people still voted for PDP during the gubernatorial elections.

The people of Rivers state were(are) supporting PDP but the governor of the state had decamped to APC and now wants to bring in his puppet to run a state under APC that the people are not in support of.

Ameachi if left unchecked would have forced Dakuku on Rivers people, knowing fully well Rivers people were not supporters of APC then...

So are people saying that after Rivers voted massively for GEJ(PDP), they would now turn around to vote for Ameachi(in the form of Dakuku) who stole rivers money to go help buhari??

If I am being honest, of a truth the APC supporters in Rivers state from 2015 to date have increased a little but we should stop deceiving ourselves to think that if Wike did not use the Military to checkmate Ameachi as alleged and the elections were just free and fair between Wike(PDP) and Dakuku(APC), that Dakuku would have won.

Now I am not saying Wike using the military was right but in a situation where the the people of Rivers wanted PDP but the governor was APC and was going to force himself and his party on the people of Rivers, what was the solution??

Fastforward to 2019...Rivers is still by an extremely huge margin a PDP state...but Ameachi still wants to force his party on Rivers people...and is willing to go to any length to achieve that...even killing the people u claim u want to liberate and rule.

All what u hear is happening in Rivers state, remember APC does not have a candidate in Rivers state. Just the Ameachi(flag-Amachree) led faction is supporting the AAC candidate(so he can decamp to APC after the elections) and see all that's happening. Imagine if APC actually had a candidate. Just imagine, the situation pf things in Rivers by now.
