Operators of one of the leading betting companies in Nigeria, K.C Gaming Network Ltd, popularly known as Bet9ja have pulled out of the sponsorship deal it entered with the Nigeria National League (NNL) after two years of supporting the league.

In 2017, Bet9ja had signed a N200m for three years.

This was confirmed at the NNL annual congress in Abuja on Wednesday night when the omission of Bet9ja logo was conspicuously missing in the NNL AGM banner both outside the hotel gates and inside the hall, venue of the meeting.

According to an insider in the NNL, the betting company were not happy teams were not relegated from the Nigeria Professional Football League as well as the failure of the league administrators to uphold standard footballing practice, citing “contractual infidelity” on the part of the NNL.

It will be recalled that there were controversies surrounding promotion and relegation of teams from the NNL and NPFL last year.

The NNL had proposed last year to promote the 8 teams which qualified for the NNL Super 8 to the elite league which didn’t go down well with League Management Company (LMC).

The NNL blamed the crisis that rocked the Nigeria football and said that the decision was taken in the best interest of football.

It will also be recalled that the NPFL which ended abruptly did not relegate any team and this necessitated the introduction of the abridged version of two groups this season to accommodate the new entrants from the NNL.

In the same vein, the NNL managers have resolved to extend the registration of clubs by one week to enable them fulfill all registration requirements or will be delisted from the league while approving 3rd of April, 2019 as the kick-off date for the 2018/19 league season.
