Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has assured that academic activities in the Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia, will formally take off in May.

Amosun, who gave the assurance after inspecting the institution’s site on Monday, said: “All arrangements have been made to have the institution’s first matriculation ceremony.”

He disclosed that no fewer than 3,000 applicants would be admitted as pioneer students of the institution, following the completion of all admission procedures.

In company of his cabinet members and permanent secretaries, Governor Amosun said that the polytechnic is one of the 20 legacy projects that President Muhammadu Buhari will commission before handover of his government in the state.

He noted that the commencement of activities in the institution would bring development to the area, while urging the people of the community to be accommodating to students and staff.

Highlighting some of the facilities already on ground, the governor said: “We already have lecture theatres that can take 2500 students at a go, hostel facility, staff quarters and rector’s residence, among others, hence the polytechnic is more than ready for take-off.”

He also revealed that “as soon as Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia, commences operation, Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH) will also come on stream,” adding that the master plan for the take-off of the university is already in place.

The Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Samson Adeola Odedina, while speaking with newsmen, said it is situated on a virgin land and he is elated that the people of the community are ready to receive them.

He also said the management of the institution is fully ready for the May commencement of academic activities.

There should be a reorientaion of the essence of polytechnics to encourage more students applying and reduce friction with their university counterparts. Ogun state does seem to have a high number of academic institutions.......kudos to the pioneers.
Skill acquisition centres should also be pursued vigorously.......

FTC for the 1st time after so many unconscious attempts! I wonder what is so special about the position.

I can't congratulate the state for this achievement.

The state cannot fund existing educational institutions adequately...and it expects to fund another polytechnic.

In five years time, there will be argument about school fees increase.

Ogun state already own a university and polytechnic...I believe such institution should have been upgraded to meet international standards than establish another substandard institutions just to score cheap goals...a government that refuses to develop primary and secondary education...dis is just a waste of tax payers money

The school was obviously not founded in the interest of Ogun State.
This is a state that is struggling to properly fund her plethora of higher institutions.

To even think that this same man wanted to merge TASUED with OOU for paucity of fund when he newly became the governor make this creation of new institution shows how politicians can be contradictory.

Polytechnics in Nigeria should collaborate with Universities for research and development instead of always struggling to earn the same pay.

They should be the playground of technical abilities, and tight now they are far behind.

Long overdue...I really do hope that the incoming Governor doesn't come and stop it from taking off...because the way Govs try to rubbish their predecessors' achievements (all at the detriment of the masses) is sickening.

Don't mind them...He's a useless man yet he's a 2-term Senator and Governor...the best Gov of the State so far apart from Onabanjo...I just don't want to sound rude, I should have compared their Dads' life achievements and the lives they have touched with that of Amosun.
