The problem in Nigeria is that we do things out of jealousy in order to prove that we belong.

The fact that oil is in Niger Delta and some parts of the East doesn't mean there will be oil everywhere.

There many natural resources in different parts of the country that can still help our economic growth, but every region wants to own oil by force.

Honestly, the way they were hyping the Lagos oil discovery, I was thinking by now Lagos would be producing 5m barrels per day.

Meanwhile, the search is still ongoing in the North.

FromPunch.....

Crude oil production from Aje field, offshore Lagos, rose to 1.2 million barrels in 2018, one of the joint venture partners have said.

The PUNCH reported in November last year that the field’s output declined by 75,936 barrels to 912,870 barrels in 2017, citing data from the Department of Petroleum Resources.

The field, which began production with 127,224 barrels of oil in May 2016, produced a total of 988,806 barrels that year, according to the reconciled production figures obtained from the DPR.

Yinka Folawiyo Petroleum Company Limited, a wholly owned indigenous firm, is the operator of the Oil Mining Lease 113, where the field is located. Other partners are Pan Petroleum Aje Limited (a subsidiary of Panoro Energy), New Age Exploration Nigeria Limited, EER (Colobus) Nigeria Limited, and PR Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited (the holder of MX Oil’s investment in the field).

London-based MX Oil, in its latest update on Aje field, said operations at OML 113 during 2018 continued to make good progress underpinned by strong performance of the Turonian and Cenomanian reservoirs, which continued in line with the operating partners’ expectations.

It said, “Production from the two wells in the Aje field within the OML 113 licence area has continued at a very stable rate, achieving a total produced volume for 2018 of approximately 1,200,000 barrels of oil. Currently the field is producing around 3,150 barrels of oil per day.

The firm said the partnership successfully completed the ninth lifting from the Aje field in late November 2018, lifting approximately 315,000 barrels of oil, adding that the 10th lifting was scheduled to occur in late February 2019.

It said, “Following the announcement in August 2018 that consent from the Minister of Petroleum Resources had been received for the renewal of the OML 113 for another term of 20 years, the Aje partners have now fully paid the $9.8m licence renewal fee.

“The continuous oil production of Aje-4 and Aje-5 is above initial expectations and has encouraged the operating partner group to approach RPS Group with the purpose to establishing the viability of additional development of Aje.”

According to MX Oil, RPS Group was appointed in late October 2018 to conduct an assessment of the potential development activity associated with the additional upside oil resources.

It said the modelling work conducted to date had reinforced the partners’ view of the potential for new oil wells in both the Turonian and Cenomanian.

“RPS Group’s work is now expected to conclude in Q1 2019 and will form the basis for a decision on further drilling in 2019 with a view to a full development project thereafter,” the firm said.

It said the operating partners considered that the initial development drilling might result in peak oil production rates of 8,000 to 12,000 bopd and the full development drilling might increase production to 20,000 bopd and 100 million standard cubic feet per day of gas.

MX Oil said, “The partnership expects that the initial development drilling is likely to require one new development well in the Cenomanian reservoir and one horizontal side track development well in the Turonian reservoir. The full development project will be subject to the availability of project finance in the future to allow a number of new wells to be developed.

“The operating partners continue to assess options to meet the funding requirements for the completion of the additional wells expected in Phase 2 and later to the full field development. The operating partners continue to be cognisant of the impracticality of funding projects the size of the Aje development by equity and have commenced steps to procure debt funding for Phase 2 and, potentially, the future stages of development.”

No single state in Niger Delta produces 5m barrels per day.

Besides, Oil is not only found in the Niger Delta or Eastern areas.Ondo, Kogi and Lagos are officially Oil producing states. Ogun state will follow in no distant future though other states in the North have oil but I am sure of Ogun state.

Oil Producing States in Nigeria Presently (2019): Full List

Nigeria produces about 2.5 million barrels of crude oil daily making it the largest producer of oil in Africa and 6th largest producer in the world.

Interestingly, this high valued and volume of crude oil is produced from just 7.5% of the total area. This small part of the country that produces this is known as the Niger Delta Region and the states that comprises it alongside other states where this oil is found are known as the oil producing States in Nigeria.

Currently, we have only 8 crude oil producing States in Nigeria that could be said to be really harnessing their crude oil potentials. These States includes Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Ondo, Edo, Imo and Abia.

Out of these 8 producers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa accounts for 80% of the crude oil produced. This article will discuss the contribution of each state and other interesting things about the states.

1. Akwa Ibom
Akwa Ibom is the largest oil producing state in Nigeria accounting for 31.4% of the total oil produced daily. The capital of Akwa Ibom is Uyo and it is said to be the most beautiful city in the country.

This state is a home to more than 5 million people scattered spatially in the 31 Local Governments of the state. 3 ethnic groups dominates this place and that is the Oron, Annang and Ibibio.

Akwa Ibom is not only blessed with crude oil, it is also blessed with other minerals such as natural gas, salt, clay, limestone, coal, glass sand and giver nitrate.

2. Delta
Delta with Asaba as it capital is the second largest oil producing states in the country producing about 21.56%.

There is a refinery and a petrochemical plant in Warri, the heartbeat of Delta state.

This state has 25 Local Government Areas with a population of more than 4 million. The major ethnic groups are the Urhobos, Isokos and the Itsekiris.

Regarded as one of the richest state in Nigeria, Delta also have rubber, timber, fine sand and clay.

3. Rivers
Rivers was ones the largest producer before Akwa Ibom took over from it as the largest oil producing states in Nigeria.

Currently, Rivers refine more crude oil than any other state in the country. In terms of crude oil production, Rivers produce 21.43% of the total produce.

The capital of Rivers is Port Harcourt, a city named after it founder. Rivers is regarded as one of the most populous cities in the country with a population of over 5 millions.

Ethnic groups in this state include: the Ikwerre, Okrika, Upobo, Kalabari the Ubani amongst others. Rivers state is also blessed with enormous aquatic resources.

4. Bayelsa
Bayelsa is one of the major oil producing states in Nigeria being the source of 18.07% of oil in Nigeria. This state is home to Oloibiri, the place where crude oil was first discovered in Nigeria in commercial quantity in 1959.

The capital of Bayelsa is Yenagoa and it is the state with the lowest number of Local Government Areas. Currently, it has 8 Local Government Areas with a population of just around 1.9 making it one of the least populated state in the country.

The historical Bonny Island is located in this state. The major ethnic groups include the Ogbia, Nembe, Izon and Epie- Atissa. Alongside crude oil, Bayelsa is blessed with aquatic resources.

5. Ondo
Ondo state is the 5th oil producing state in the country accounting for about 3.74%. The capital of Ondo is Akure and it is the only South Western state that made it to the list.

The population of Ondo is put around 2.4 millions, these numbers of people inhabit the 19 Local Government Areas in the state. Ondo state is also blessed with bitumen and tar sands.

6. Edo State
Edo is one of the lucky states to be an oil producing state. This state contribute 2.06% of the total crude oil output in the country.

Benin City is currently the capital of Edo and the state has a human strength of more than 3.3 million spread across the state’s Local Government Areas.

Edo state is also blessed with limestone, clay, gold, iron ore, fine sand and granite.

7. Imo
The capital of Imo is Owerri. This state add it out minute yet important quota of oil to the nation. It accounts for about 1.06% of the total oil produced in Nigeria.

The population of Imo is around 4 millions while it number of LGA is 27. This state is also graced with lead, zinc, fine sand, clay and limestone.

8. Abia
Umuahia is the capital of Abia state. This state is also lucky to had been blessed with crude oil earning it the title oil producing state.

This state has 17 LGA with a population of about 3 millions. Abia accounts for 0.68% of oil produced daily in Nigeria. It is also blessed with lead, zinc, fine sand and limestone.

The list ends here, leaving me and you to think on which state is to take the 10th spot. Is it Lagos, Kogi or Anambra? You can drop your comments using the comment box.

All the above oil producing states are part of the states earning from the yearly 13% of the revenue gotten from crude oil meant for stated producing oil in Nigeria.

Oil that is being pumped from delta

Located in the extreme western part offshore Nigeria, adjacent to the Benin border in the Dahomey Basin, the field is situated in water depths ranging from 100 to 1,500 metres, about 24 kilometres from the coast.
The field is situated 64 kilometres from Lagos and 12 kilometres close to the West African gas pipeline operated by Chevron.
