Scholarship Application And The 2.1 Criterion by whyteteeth: 9:42pm On May 02, 2019
I have been trying to apply for scholarships so i can do my Msc outside the country but I just realized my class of degree isn't really working in my favor. Well I made a good 2.2(3.32) in my first degree largely due to many reasons ranging from lack of motivation(i didn't study the course of my dream), some financial setbacks and the attitude of our lecturers towards the students. I opted for a Pgd sometime last year because I needed to switch to another discipline. By God's grace I have finished and I did very well; I made 12As and 2Bs of out the 14 courses I offered during the course of the program.

Recently, I started searching for scholarships so I can travel overseas for my masters degree but all the scholarships I am seeing place a 2.1 as a minimum Scholarship requirement for eligibility in obtaining such scholarships. for instance the common wealth scholarship, NLNG scholarship etc. I am wondering why this is so because i feel people who didn't make up to such class of degree should be given opportunity to further their education. I mean its not like its a do or die affair for everyone to make a first class or a 2.1. A 2.2 is also a result. To begin with some persons like me didn't end up with a 2.2 because they aren't intelligent but many factors beyond their control could have been responsible for that. I am really depressed. I think they should lift the bar and give everyone equal opportunity. We all can make a change despite our class of degree. Afterall the most motivated and talented people are not always the ones with first class and 2.1.

I believe I have what it takes intellectually to succeed in my chosen field of study if i am given the opportunity.

Oh, tell that to the gods. When you were being "unserious" with your first degree because you "hated" it, you should have considered that someday, maybe someday, you'll find it useful.

You didn't and now you want the bar lowered for your sake? Who are you?

It is not a must u travel overseas for studies. I was there for my first degree but it is not everything. Apply for MSC here in Nigeria with your PGD, after MSC u can get PhD scholarship overseas

You talk like a child or a teen, are u?? How can you can call a cgpa of 3.32 of out a scale of 5 rubbish?? I scored far above average and that means I’m not dull. Well, I reminisce the good days of nairaland when we had matured thinking and reasonable comments from folks. Nowadays the site has been bedeviled by all manner of toddlers who don’t have anything reasonable to say. What a pity!

If you want to get a scholarship easily for 2.2 grade,
Your best bet is University scholarship.

Focus on usa, write GRE & Toefl, get Good scores, Get good recommendation letters from your lecturers, try & write a perfect motivational letter or statement of purpose both are same thing.

Find schools for your particular course,Apply to top schools, average schools, above average atleast 4 schools, mix it,I will advice you tho to apply to average & above average schools.

Write to the schools graduate program, tell them your Qualifications, Write to your department graduate program coordinator, ask them about funding & scholarships, demand strictly for funding.

Apply to research universities, Funding, Assistantships are easy to get within such schools, look for the USA student thread follow it, you will learn a lot, look for the GRE thread on Education section, follow it as well, you will learn a lot.

I'm 2.2 graduate as well, I'm preparing for my MSc in usa too, hopefully , fall 2020!

In all, I wish you the very best of luck & have a nice life mate, Gracia!
