Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano state, has given assent to the bill passed by the Kano house of assembly which breavks up the emirate in the state.

With the development, Kano now has five emirates: Kano, Rano, Gaya, Karaye and Bichi, while the domain of HRH Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the emir of Kano, has been diminished.

With this decision the governor has redeemed the pledge he made earlier today that he would not waste time to give assent to the bill immediately it is transmitted to him.

...and the same pattern of self-destructive mistake of the north continues. The historical cohesion they have enjoyed has been hinged on ONE voice they've always had. Now it's 5 voices. I hope the people of Kano state realise that Sanusi will not be on that throne forever, but the shattered Emirates will be. This will be biggest undoing of Kano state in history.

All to spite sanusi whose tacit disapproval of Gandollar almost cost him his re-election bid but for the quick response from a "biased" umpire.

Divide and rule tactics.

Interesting move by Ganduje. Instead of getting rid of position or person. They opted to reduce influence. After the split the emirs will recieved less cash from now on.

The emirates, as with the other traditional councils, have roles in the administration of local governments and are allocated five per cent of the revenues of the local councils.

Is there an appeal against the victory of Ganduje in the just concluded kano elections considering all that went down there?
