thanks dolly for your advise

Get a notebook and pen.
Determine your budget.
Start attending more weddings to get ideas and feel of what you want.
Get numbers of your friend, sisters friends or anyone who recently got married to be by you, they are usually excited to help and will be good pointers.
Get a list of 3-4 caterers and get quotations (if possible attend functions where they are catering to sample their food)
Start scouting for venue and book asap.
Music will it be live band or DJ, again get list and sample.
Decide if you are sowing your gown, if buying from abroad start sourcing and order asap.
Find a good haristylist practice to find style that suits your face e.g top, flat, afro u get my drift.
Get a good makeup artist if not practice to find colour shade that suits you and practice or get a groovy friend who is fashionable and is a true friend you don't want anyone making you up as a clown (I am serious o) I have seen some brides and believe me,
Choose the colour theme for the day.
Get a list of 3-4 decorators and try to go to functions they decorating to see their work.
Decide who your best lady will be and get them to do the runnings with you.
Start looking at cake designs, e.t.c
[li][/li]

Others
Eat healthily (fruits, veg e.t.c)
Drink plenty of water it will help your skin.
Pray

Re: How To Plan A Good Wedding? by hayo(m): 10:25pm On Jun 25, 2008
Get an excel sheet and start with a budget. The funds at ur disposal will determine what u can achieve. But note that though we all crave fairy tale wedding but the pocket is d real determinant here. It will not be fun if at the end of d wedding; both of u are in debts. It kills d marriage. So, determine how much u want to spend now that will not put u in trouble n start looking for vendors from now. For ur gown - u might want to check www.bridalonlinestore.com - the store is in d US n they have some cheap nice gowns. U can also identify d video n photo men from now plus other vendors. In your excel sheet - have a list of the months from now till December and infront of each - identify milestones u want to achieve. E.g July - Identify vendors. Sept - Pay part of Video man's money. If u do these things well - u have just become a wedding planner urself n on the way to a decent n memorable day.
After all of that - let me just tell u that my prayer is more for ur marriage and not only for d wedding party - that God will give u unlimited happiness.
Cheers!

Re: How To Plan A Good Wedding? by jydewalker(m): 10:38am On Jun 26, 2008
Thanks for asking for ideas and sugestion from fellow nairalanders.

It is only those who have passed thru the road, b4 that could tell how the road looks like. dont mind those SSB that were saying rubbish.

Sugestion from dolly, is the most accurate in these regard.

I got married in 2004 and 4 of my friends that got married after me actually use my list and summary note.

take a notebook, carryable, and a pen and jot down efrything that comes to yr mind

Take each page for each item, yr bridesmaid, her dress, the total cost. Yr bridal train, each of them in each page. the cost and whatever each of them has paid to you, whether in part or in whole.

Aso ebi page etc.

You dont need a wedding planner. As nobody goes to school to learn how to plan a wedding. It's inborn, you have it. Dont deny yrsef what you already have. You can do it too.

Pls invite us when the bell finally clocks!

I wish you a successful wedding

@ paparazi

You gave a good load down of what is needed. Though you left out some things like MC, Photographer and Video Coverage, Invitation cards & Programme.

My wedding is next year but I have compiled a list of people that specialise in providing these items from wedding gown to IV, Venue& Decorations, Cake, Caterers, Florists, MCs, Make up artists etc and their address so that when I need it its easier for me to make my choice.

Re: How To Plan A Good Wedding? by seyibrown(f): 1:12am On Jun 28, 2008
The most important things:

1. BRIDEGROOM and his costume (Make sure he turns up on the d-day)
2. BRIDE (You, I suppose) and your costume
3. WEDDING RINGS (1 or 2)
3. MARRIAGE REGISTER SIGNEES
4. REFRESHMENTS ( Or a MEGA FEAST) for friends, family and other attendees

HIGH-SOCIETY WEDDING?  Get a wedding planner.

Re: How To Plan A Good Wedding? by olabello(m): 3:55pm On Jun 30, 2008
It’s becoming increasingly more difficult to plan a wedding with a budget in mind with the cost of everything going higher every year, but if you try it is still feasible to plan that special day on a shoestring. Here are a few tips to help you pinch those pennies and make the dollar stretch as far as possible.

If you have already started thinking about getting married and have looked into prices at all then you already know that the rental of a church or other indoor facility will definitely cost you money. This was a surprise to me when I got married; I thought the church would supply their building for free! It was $200 for us to use it from 9am to 11:30.
